About this ebook
Number One with an AXE! Volume 8 looks at the guitar work that peppered the #1 hits of the early 90s. The musical landscape started to shift during this era; the guitar took its lumps as synths and vocal harmonies took center stage, but our six-string friend still has a few nifty tricks up its sleeve!

Number One with an AXE! is a look at the role of the guitar in America’s #1 Billboard hits. Guitar gadfly Michael Rays listens to, comments on and scores each #1 hit in terms of four guitar-centric criteria: riffage, rhythm, fills and solos. The result is an exploratory history of the guitar at the pinnacle of American pop music.
The eighties were the greaties. Now here come the nineties, complete with email, the internet and the continued rise of hip-hop. What does it all mean for the guitar? Put on your baggy overalls and let’s find out!
