Dogtooth Breakthrough (Music in Scotland)
ecently, while I found myself watching The Lambrettas in Blackpool, the bill featured a band called Dogtooth. Half expecting some middle-aged ska covers band, I was pleasantly surprised to see three young lads line up on stage and proceed to play a snarling set of their own post-punk/new-wave inspired tunes. Blown away by their hard hitting cover of the Talking Heads, and suitably impressed by their own tracks, I purchased their EP as a nod of appreciation. Their EP Breakthrough was apparently recorded a while back and features the young Glaswegians’ earlier material. You can definitely hear how their live performances have evolved from a more generic Mod-revival/Britpop sound to something a lot more memorable and unique. Although lacking as much punch as their onstage persona, the EP certainly holds up against some of the bigger guitar bands and plays host to some very likeable songs.
