    Acknowledgements

Thank you to the team at Conscious Dreams Publishing: Daniella Blechner – Book Journey Mentor, Rhoda Molife – Editor and Oksana Kosovan – Typesetter. Without you, this book would not be! But without some people, my life would not be!

My first gratitude goes to Olive Flynn who impacted my life the most. Thank you Olive for giving up your evenings to teach me English when I came to this country at the age of 11 years old. I still remember how you drenched me in literature from Shakespeare to Greek mythology and eventually became a valued part of my family, an employer and grandmother to my children. You are the one who believed in me from the beginning and encouraged my passion for dancing. Olive I look forward to celebrating your 93rd birthday this year with a special gift of my book inspired by you.

Secondly my parents who I know are always watching over me from above and without whom I wouldn’t be here. Thank you Mama and Papa for allowing me the freedom to become the person I am today and putting our needs before your own. You were selfless in your duties as parents! Thank you!

Thank you to my darling husband for standing by me and wiping my tears and making life OK. Thank you to my sons Dharminder, Harminder and daughters Ravneet and Kamaljit for always encouraging me to write and follow my dreams and giving me substance to write about. Thank you!

My gratitude goes to my older sister Surinder Kaur Rehal who always has the time to talk to me about family life and put things into perspective. I can’t forget the reassurances from all my other sisters, Jagjit, Swaran, Harjinder and Jaswinder, when I was dealing with insecurities over my looks. Thank you for taking the time to read my poems and giving your seal of approval and making this book possible. Thank you!

A big thank you my dear friend Usha who I mentored during her first year of teaching but who then ended up mentoring me in subsequent years following the death of my mother and brother. Usha you saved me when I was sinking and gave me the tools and confidence to heal myself by expressing my emotions through poetry. Thank you!

Meena, you are the sixth sister I didn’t have. Thank you for your words of advice during our sessions of beauty therapy. I always felt better having talked with you over a cup of tea.

Thank you Donna for being there to listen to me when I was going through a painful time in my life and proofreading my poems.

A big thank you goes to Amar Kaur Dhanjal who has been a pillar of strength with her positive outlook on life. Thank you to all of you who have accompanied me on my journey; your presence has enriched my life.

Finally my dear friend Fiona Robertson who has been in my life for over 40 years – thank you for the lovely lunches and always being on the other side of the phone when I need you. You taught me how to laugh through all my problems. My little problems are nothing compared to yours. Thank you!

    Foreword

My journey into poetry started back in 2005 after the loss of our dearest mother. Losing loved ones leaves a hole in our lives that makes us ponder over the meaning of life. It is a constant reminder that we are all perishable. No matter how much we like to think we are in control, the reality is
