      CHAPTER ONE

      Ailith lived on a crowded farm far out in the countryside. She was the only daughter of her fierce father Orgol, a retired captain of the king's knights. He was a prominent legend in the Wars of Rose Pyre and Fingdome.

      Ailith was a prominent legend herself; mainly to the bugs and bunnies who ran and buzzed in the fields near her home. Sheʼd often sneak out and run around, chasing wild animals and laying in the field.

      Her father had a tight reign over his household, commanding his peasants and servants as if he were still fighting for the king. Her door was always locked, but she had a way of doing whatever she wanted under her fatherʼs nose.

      Harvest season had just begun, and since Ailith and her father lived on fertile land, there was much gold to be made. This story coincides with the end of the king's latest war. It was the second great war of the elves with the people of Xugxati. War had slowly come to an end with equal devastating losses on both sides.

      The king had sent several of his heroic knights do farming work for the season: hard
