Are you sure you don’t want some of my men to escort you as well?

Princess Amelia put a hand over her mouth, but couldn’t stop the mischievous laugh coming out. She saw the concerned expression of the person who asked the question and calmed herself before dropping her arm to her side.

You say the same thing every time I end a visit with you, Aunt Constance, she let out in a teasing tone.

I know, I know, Constance said. But you’re the daughter of the king. That makes you important. It doesn’t befit you to be travelling with such a small contingent of guards. I worry about your safety.

My safety is much more assured the way I go about things, Princess Amelia assured her aunt. I don’t draw attention to myself and no one gives five travelers a second glance. If I made journeys with a grand entourage in the way my father and you want me to travel, it would hardly go unnoticed and I suspect I’d be in much more danger.

There is safety in numbers, Constance preached. You should have much more protection than four guards.

How many times have I visited you recently? Princess Amelia remarked pointedly and heard the sigh of the older woman.

But…, Constance started although she wasn’t given the chance to finish.

I’ll be fine, Princess Amelia interrupted. There’s no need for you to worry about me.

Constance moved forward to take her niece’s face in her hands.

I do though, she said in a concerned voice.
