A NEW  SPRING FOR A NEW YEAR!

As spring comes in its due season, it is time to hope for fresh new blossoms and dream anew, for life springs forth at the dawn of rekindled warmth and colours… It brings me great delight to water these lovely greens on this spring day morning. Cabbages, broccolis, eggplants, tomatoes, you name it. They are

The Chinese New Year is a lively celebration of spring festival that is enjoyed in many parts of the world. Rolleen and Barrie wanted to take part in welcoming the spring season in the traditional way. Rolleen felt special dressing up in an ancient Chinese gown and writing Chinese New Year greetings. Barrie lighted up the firecrackers to cheer up the atmosphere. Together, they gazed delightfully upon the gentle beauty of plentiful soft pink plum blossoms blooming in their distant countryside village.

Plum blossoms are amongst the first to bloom after a cold winter. They show us the sweet colours and grace of new life as spring dawns on the land. No wonder Rolleen and Barrie love the nice smelling flowers very much. Rolleen took out a brush and began writing a poem on a traditional scroll…

SPRING DAWN

The season finally changes as the colours return,

gracing the land with splendid hues of pinks and reds.

Sweet buds flourishing under the rising spring glow;

chirpy young birds flap their wings and alight on tender branchlets.

The plum blossoms have arrived to sing of the golden dawn anew;

another beginning to cherish from heaven its youthful dew.

The firecrackers were loud and liven up the once quiet but picturesque village. The endearing spring blossoms sent light petals fluttering and descending upon the courtyard. Rolleen and Barrie beheld the pink flurries with awe and wonder.

Can we have the plum blossoms throughout the year? Barrie asked Rolleen curiously.

Rolleen thought for a moment and replied, Plum blossoms belong to spring, but I think we can have spring every year, Barrie…The blossoms make us look forward to spring always…And, perhaps the colour of plum blossoms tells us a story about spring…that pinks and reds are the first colours of all seasons of the year…Mommy tells me that they speak of the revival of warmth and the glow of the rising sun!

Hmmm…So we can have a reason to wait eagerly for spring year after year! No wonder pink is my favourite colour! Barrie realised and the two friends stretched forth their palms to catch hold of the many tender petals together.

Rolleen giggled, It’s like the firecrackers giving us a lively sound and excitement. They are like the cheerful clapping of our hands to welcome everyone and spring. It’s like resetting our time and clocks back to the beginning – back to our home and families! Ain’t that nice, Barrie?
