    Colour-blind

We are all colour-blind. Did you know that?

The definition of colour, according to Google: the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits lights. Colour is both energy and light.

How you see colours is your own personal viewing show and you are the view master. That’s throwing it way back for those of you who can remember the toy.

I love colours. We should never be afraid of colour. That’s the first rule of interior design. When you see the world in colour, it becomes limitless. Colours stimulate us — it’s a fact. And when you look at the world through rose-coloured glasses, it can be inspiring. Actually, as an interior designer I gravitate to certain colours like magenta! I’m a magenta girl hands down, not necessarily on the walls, but as a form of expression, like wearing magenta tassel earrings. I can’t help it that I love magenta. I found out it’s the universal colour of love. How powerful is that? There’s healing in colour therapy, and each colour has its own meaning.

Take, for example, a rainbow — one of Mother Nature’s most majestic and colourful gifts. What many of us don’t realize is that we’re not only looking at seven distinct colours. Nope, there’s more than meets the eye. Our eyes can only register the seven wavelengths of light, but we’re actually looking at a limitless spectrum of shades blended together with no harsh boundaries. This spectrum forms a continuous circle, yet we only see half of the picture, the arc. And every person who sees a rainbow will see it differently, depending on where they are viewing it and how the angle of the water droplet hits the light . . . it’s pure magic.

Again, you are the view master. How you see colour is up to you. If you choose to see it as black and white, well, that’s your choice. When you add those two to the mix, you get grey. It’s OK to feel grey for a while; just don’t stay stuck in that shade forever. Remember: the greater your storm, the brighter your rainbow.

Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud. ~ Maya Angelou

Some people might look at a colour and see a different hue or shade. That’s the interior designer in me coming out. Colours represent so much feeling. Try it for yourself — look at a colour and see what emotions it brings up. There are no wrong answers here, as long as you see each colour in all its beauty, because life is really a beautiful masterpiece painted in a spectrum of beautiful colours, interpreted differently by everyone.

We can all try to remember that everyone has a story to tell even though some keep it hidden. Some stories are just more colourful than others. Once we realize that, we’re all one. That’s where the true magic happens. Actually, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. What an eye-opening book. I’m so grateful for reading it because it totally propelled me to finish mine. Thank you, Elizabeth. Her philosophy on life is that there are always ideas floating around, waiting to be accepted or be born, which kind of goes with Buddha’s teaching: What you think, you will become.

This conscious reasoning is all tied to your inspiration, your creativity, your gift to create a life without fear. And I’m a firm believer that you’re actually reading the proof of this infinite creativity right now. I had an idea floating around in my head years ago. I didn’t know at all where it would take me, but I trusted the process, learned many life lessons along the way, some of which you’re reading about here, and met beautiful people who feel like sunshine and inspire me. And through this whole process, this idea has now manifested into a real-life book. I didn’t really go out searching for it. I believe it found me. And it must have liked me, because it stuck with me and watched me grow through what I went through. And this was not accomplished overnight. I’m an impulsive person. I want things done yesterday. This book was not the case. It was my work-in-progress, my cathartic therapy relief. Every time I felt an idea or even a feeling like goosebumps, it went down on paper and this told me I was going forward in the right direction. I was writing it right no matter how wrong my spelling
