Amzi B. Burt Jr.

My name is Amzi Burt Jr. I am a native Mississippian. I played football in high school, junior college, and senior college, and I worked in the coaching profession for over thirty years. All the while, one of my main concentrations has been special teams. This led me to develop the alternative method of scoring, known as the Koho Series, where we line up as if to kick the ball and run a pass or run play instead. I am married with five daughters and a host of grandkids and great-grandkids.

The KOHO Series had its origin in the thinking of Amzi Burt and Cecil Twillie. Coach Twillie was the head football coach at Cotton Plant High School of Cotton Plant, Arkansas. He was very team oriented and readily encouraged innovations when developing schemes that were sound.

It was Coach Twillie’s evaluation of the original scheme that led to the assortment of plays that make up this system of scoring from the field goal, extra-point alignment.

Thanks to his innovative spirit and thinking, I was allowed to develop this system and use it in strategic situations with great success! Thanks for trusting me, Coach!

    PREFACE

Like all systems that address a need, the KOHO system arose as an idea and was developed into a system to satisfy a specific need: the ability to score in a consistent, simple way from the basic field goal, extra-point alignment. To further satisfy this need, the system is set up to look like the kick is always coming and is structured to be run in series form. Anytime a team is forced into a field goal or extra-point situation, where it is absolutely logical or mandatory that they kick, the KOHO Series can be applied to great effect. In this instance, nine (9) out of ten (10) defensive teams will line up in such a manner as to apply maximum pressure for the situation to foil the kicking team’s try for goal. This forced alignment will prove to be the ideal situation for the kicking team and the major downfall of the defensive team when the KOHO is applied at the last possible instance from the basic field goal, extra-point alignment.

This system was first used on the high school level in East Central Arkansas while the author was in charge of special teams at Cotton Plant HS of Cotton Plant, Arkansas. The KOHO became especially important to our efforts because it eliminated the various teams’ ability to come at us with an all-out rush while providing us with the ability to score quickly and consistently. We possessed the ability to effectively kick field goals and extra points, and this further disguised the KOHO. Once we installed the original
