About this ebook

Are you malnourished? Have spiritual assaults left you feeling impoverished, empty? You are not alone. Tell That Bully, NO! The Overcomer’s Handbook helps the reader fortify their faith. The book offers insights to the truth of the gospel that exposes and stops our adversary and defeats him on any battlefield.
Obedience to the Word of God generates spiritual opposition. Our faith will be tested by fire. There is no need for alarm. Jesus Christ has overcome the world. The afflictions we experience as believers—cunning maneuvers of the enemy—can make us feel defeated to defraud us of God’s promises. Entrance into the kingdom of God demands endurance—a soldier’s endurance.
There were days at work when it seemed impossible for me to focus. These experiences have taught me not to become alarmed or frustrated with myself. Satan, the bully, is the source of confusion, not my inadequacies. The Devil and his cohorts intend to make us view everything from an earthly perspective, and not from an eternal, heavenly perspective (Colossians 3:2).
We must not be ignorant of the enemy’s subtle persuasions. The accuser speaks nothing but lies to influence us to disobey God’s will, to surrender the battle, to crush our confidence in God’s Word. These offensive strikes are his attempts to manipulate our thoughts and emotions to compel us to yield to our personal desires—our comfort zone—and forsake faith.
One day the Holy Spirit whispered to my spirit—It is easy to live by what you see and how you feel. God is asking you to live by what you hear—Our heavenly Father is faithful to fulfill His Word and His promises spoken to us through the Holy Spirit. If we abide in Christ, our lives will bear fruit.

I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

    INTRODUCTION

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

    —Luke 12:32

Through His precious and beloved Son Jesus Christ, God Almighty invites believers to share His kingdom and glory (1 Thessalonians 2:12). As members of the body of Christ on earth, we become either victims to our circumstances or victors over them. Tell That Bully, NO! The Overcomer’s Handbook helps arm the church against her adversary, the Devil. It encourages each of us to persevere in faith and resist the tactical efforts of the enemy that persuade us to live by our emotions. If we walk in the Spirit, we will not live by our flesh, our earthly nature (Romans 8:4). No matter what we see or how we feel, God is faithful to His Word. Because Jesus overcame the world, we, too, can overcome the kingdom of darkness. For every battle we encounter, Jesus has already secured our victory! (John 16:33).

Every believer in Christ will confront opposition and engage in spiritual warfare as we strive to enter the kingdom of God. Individually, we learn to recognize the pattern the Devil uses against us. The Holy Spirit instructed me to record my walk of faith on simple note cards. From these, I compiled a description of the spiritual opposition I encountered. Mine began with the serpent’s subtleties (Genesis 3:1).

The onset of the enemy’s maneuver was almost unnoticeable. Even with adequate sleep, my normal energy level escaped me. As I moved throughout the day, I sensed the resistance. It was difficult to function even in routine daily activities. I slogged through the day enveloped in a mild headache, punctuated with annoying back pain. I pressed on wondering what is wrong with me. As the day wore on, my movement resembled a climber’s ascent through steep terrain; the bully’s oppression shadowed my every step.

Like clockwork, the pressure continued with the beginning of another day. Tidal waves of negative thoughts flooded my mindaccusations of others, memories of things I wanted to forget, the let downs, the criticisms, the relentless chatterthat triggered a bundle of negative emotions as well as discouragement. I thought, What is going on? I wrestled with what seemed like despondency.

As the negative onslaught ensued, I was left feeling unmotivated, robbed of enthusiasm. I struggled to move forward, feeling smothered, as though a black cloud hovered over my mind. Without any visible explanation, I was exhausted. I knew the accuser was at work, challenging the authority of God’s Word, and my inheritance in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior (Revelation 12:10). The bully’s strategies attempted to box me into a corner as he intensified his assault against God’s truth.

At times, I felt so overwhelmed I conscientiously focused upon God’s creation, His flowers. I stopped to consider the special care God Almighty took to design, shape, and color each one. Knowing Him as my Creator, who attends to intricate details, helped to strengthen my resolve to walk by faith, not by sight.

This is pivotal. This is where
