Prologue
This is the second book in the Captain Character ™
series. Captain Character is actually Dr. Matthew Meleg, an accelerator physicist at a scientific research facility southwest of Chicago. He has a goal to make his mark on this world with the discovery of being able to change the speed of light. The machine he is using for his research is called a Superconducting Magnet Energy Storage (SMES) and the title of his research is called Supra Light-Speed Propulsion System (SLIPS).
He lives in Plainfield, Illinois and has a sister named Skyler who lives in Joliet, Illinois. She is studying to be a medical doctor. Their mother, Nina, lives out of the area. His best friend, Gavin, works in the lab right next to his. He has another physicist friend, Joey, who lives out of state.
One day, while working on his experiment, Matt gets zapped
by some power coming out of the SMES machine, which has a lasting effect that he did not expect. It gives him superhero powers and abilities. His left finger, where the power came into his body, glows green when the powers come upon him. He knows when he needs to go to situations in need, and resolve them. His eyes become intense and the trench coat he wears flows in the wind, even when there is none. He senses that he becomes a person of power, and others experience that too.
He has become the superhero, Captain Character, coming to the rescue of those in need. He resolves the situation and teaches life lessons in character. The first three boys whom he helped in the first book (Zachary, Geoffrey and George) now want to become assistants to Captain Character.
Now, continue on with his adventures in book two.
Captain Character ™ is illustrated by Peter B. Case.
Chapter 1
Matt needs to leave work early today. It is Wednesday afternoon, and he won’t be back in his lab until Friday.
A few weeks ago, he received an invitation from the physics department at the University of Illinois, or the U of I, as it is often referred to. He looks at the email again to ensure he understands the information correctly and brings a copy with him. He was invited to speak at the physics symposium tomorrow morning at ten, so he plans to drive down and stay the night. He likes to be prompt and doesn’t want to drive the morning of the symposium in case he has traveling difficulties. He ensures that he sent an electronic copy of his presentation to the physics department, and he plans to bring a backup copy with
