WINNING LETTER

I WAS fascinated by the story we have this week about people who fall in love with or are in relationships with artificial intelligence (AI). It raises so many questions about these interactions, how people see themselves and others and what it means if you’re in a human relationship but you’re falling for a machine.

Is it cheating if it’s an AI persona? Are your feelings less or equally valid? Are the consequences in terms of heartbreak as severe? What are the boundaries and who gets to set them? What are the long-term – or even short-term – effects on your physical and emotional state?

AI technology is advancing rapidly every day and more questions are going to arise. We have no idea just how much the world is going to change and how we’re going to change with it. We couldn’t predict it when the first smartphone was developed or when Facebook was first launched.
