Foreword
I am pleased to present you with my first book of poems which has been a few years in the making. I first started writing poetry back in 2008/2009 as a way to move the continuing thoughts spiraling around in my mind when I was living on my own, away from my family to be closer to my employment. At the time there were many issues going on in my life and being able to write them down on paper, helped alleviate the continuous thoughts which were not helping me to move on. Seeing the poems written as they flowed, enabled me to gain greater clarity and solve issues from a more balanced perspective.
The poems in this book are a mix of some of my earlier poems, but also more recent poems as I have expanded my awareness of the issues that confront us and where changes could be made. Often, I will get a title in my head and I quickly need to find some pen and paper to write what flows. Sometimes if I am not quick enough or in the middle of doing something, the thoughts go and the poem is lost to the energy.
Having had a very demanding corporate role and being a breadwinner mum
for many years, writing poetry has enabled me to tap into my creative side, my divine and at times wounded feminine and when it flows to tap into the connection beyond.
The poems may question you as to how you think about your purpose, your potential, your life, your health, your loves, to awaken perhaps a discussion, an inner dialogue, realizing, that we all have similar thoughts and questions we ask ourselves on a regular basis, but they may never branch out from our heads or see the light of day.
Poetry can take many forms and styles, conveying beautiful imagery of what is seen by the poet, what is experienced or what is felt. Feelings, emotions and imagination all come through in various guises for contemplation. Once we tap into our creative side and get in touch with our inner being, I believe we are all capable of writing from the heart and the soul. You just have to give it a go and you may be surprised as to what transforms on to a page to Awaken You.
