He has not finished college and did not learn how to spell very well, but he has always tried to do his best. He still loves the outdoors and loves to share his adventure stories and his thoughts with everyone. He is happy to know that the outdoor people and Mother Nature are all so amazing to him.

About the Author

Introduction

Hi, my name is Jim Stone. I felt the need to share what I have learned from the land and all the living things that have shared their lives with me. This is my way to give back with heartfelt gratitude to that which has sustained me through all the trials of my life.

I was raised on the abundance of wild game and the fresh colorful plants, roots, berries, herbs, and grains that grow quietly and sweetly wherever one cares to take the time to notice. This living garden was, and still is, my pantry, although times have changed quite dramatically.

I am a child of the land, raised in the cradle of the earth herself. My education consisted of the most brilliant of teachers and the richest of classrooms. Nature taught me all the things that are important to know by including me in the day-to-day struggles of life and death so that I could know firsthand the pulse of life. I learned from observation, noticing the intricate patterns that speak in languages only the soul understands. Although translation has proven to be difficult, as words fail to encompass the depth of emotion that is necessary, I will do my best to share all I have been privileged to be a part of. I believe to understand, you must become that which is the object of your attention. Only then will the true identity and knowledge be clearly understood.

That’s what dads and mentors do. I’ve always wanted you to be better than me—bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, and happier. I did not have that from anyone. I learned, but not in the easy way. Having a father means having a man to show me.
