About this ebook

One often smiles seeing a Pembroke corgi ambling down the sidewalk or running across a yard. With their long bodies and short legs, corgis have a big-dog personality in a compact size, and they make great pets.
Corgis are very intelligent and like to be in on the action. They are working dogs, problem solvers, and clowns, and they are very independent. What is it like to have a corgi? A friend said it this way: “You think you have a corgi, but the corgi has you.”
This book is the story of Tipper, a rescue alpha female Pembroke corgi that by chance was acquired by the author and his wife. Details of their experiences over fourteen years make up the vignettes in this tribute and serve as counsel for those considering inviting a corgi to be part of their households.

    The Tipper

    Chronicles

    Introduction

A good dog story has universal appeal. Our family has many stories about the various dogs we have owned over five decades: five different Shetland sheepdogs, a herding dog that looks like a small collie; a second dog at two different times—one a Lab mix and the other one an American boxer.

The stories about each of these dogs pale in comparison to those about our most recent dog of fifteen years, a female Pembroke corgi named Tipper. She was charming and challenging, outgoing and outrageous, endearing and mischievous.

These stories are a tribute to our wonderful life with Tipper and our response to many friends who encouraged us to write about her. This is also a general profile of corgis for people who encounter corgi owners walking them and stop to say, What a beautiful dog. We’re fond of corgis and thought we might get one as a family pet.
