About this ebook

In the United States and Canada, more than 350,000 men, women, and young people have lost their lives to fentanyl and other drug overdoses in the past five years.
In Letters from Cody, Eya narrates their story through a series of more than sixty letters reflecting Cody’s thoughts, feelings, experiences, and relationships while he was alive. It offers insight into the perils of drug addiction…
Conveying an explosion of emotion as a teenager commits suicide via drug use, because of a family matter, Letters from Cody also calls attention to this underlying issue of American’s opiate overdose epidemic.

    About the Author

To my son … my joy, my laughter, and my lifestyle changer … my dearest child who took some drugs and died so young:

    I loved you a lot.

    Mom

    • The epidemic of drug-induced deaths continues in North America today. Statistics indicate that there are approximately nine deaths per hour (or over 215 deaths each day), related to opioid use, in Canada and the United States combined.

    • In the USA and Canada over 350,000 people (including men, women, and young people) have lost their lives to fentanyl and other drug overdoses in the past five years (since 2014). Cody was among these overdose victims; in 2017 fentanyl caused his death.

    • According to airline statistics, in the past four years, around 2,900 passengers have died in accidents around the world—or about 725 lives have been lost each year.

    • In 2018 alone more than 68,600 people have died due to fentanyl and other drug overdoses in the United States.

May we now, find a solution so that we can all be safe? Let us put aside our shame and fight with confidence to combat this disgraceful epidemic.

    Hey, Mommy,

My name is Cody. I’m in heaven today. I loved you.

PS: I am still the same old Cody, so don’t forget this. And send regards to those who don’t care, as I don’t seek to talk to them too often anymore. As you know, they seemed to have moved on a long time ago, about a year and a half, but you still dream about me, talk to me, and keep me company from earth.

I am still with thee, and you see how much I care!

Mom, don’t cry. It makes me sad too, as I am so, so sorry for all I’ve done. And Jesus says this: You were a swell mom, all in all.

Think about this. Jesus says it, so it must be right.

    Cody,

    your
