ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The encouragement of my late uncle, Mr. Tony Nwadialo, on this course is acknowledged. While discussing his last book, he told me that my posting to Abuja was one to understudy the environment and identify where I could contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practice.
Special gratitude goes to the lecturers, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Yaba, Lagos, Drs Adidi Uyo, Ralph Akinfeleye, Dele Sobowale, Andrew Moemeke, Victor Aluma and Dele Ogunade (RIP) for their effective grooming of the 1987 class of undergraduates.
Deep gratitude also goes to Mrs Efuru Igbo, Mrs A. M. Lavender, Engrs, Kayode Aliu, Reuben Okeke, Folusho Oyesiku, Adegboyega Osideinde, Okwudili Ezeugwa, Olori Buky Osiberu, Gabriel Abayomi, Bukky Ojurongbe; Comrades Godwin Ifeanacho, Sam Nwaire, Joe Ajaero; Barr. Mention must be made of Olabanji Ejibunu, Miss Vivian Nkechi Odi and Mrs Ucha Chigaemezu Emekoba who had to type and retype this work.
Appreciation goes to Micheal Fatoye, Mrs Olutayo Adewusi, and HRH Victor Awogu, who read through the manuscript and made very important recommendations. Teddy Mbamalu is appreciated for most of the images in this work.
Profound gratitude goes to the great and well-respected editor, newspaper business manager and former judge, CNN journalist of the Year Panel, Mr. Azu Ishiekwene who literally went through the manuscript with a very penetrating tooth brush
to fine-tune the work and also producing the Foreword to this book.
I also wish to commend my darling wife, Ijeoma, our children and extended family members for their patience and critical support which facilitated the completion of this work.
Ultimately and in totality I give the Almighty GOD all the glory for HIS wonders, inspiration, providence, grace and guidance which, indeed, started and saw this work through.

FOREWORD
Succeeding in Communication is Clement Ezeolisah’s dispassionate endeavour to contribute to the corpus of knowledge about the whole essence of communication, and it is the fact that communication is key to harmonious human interaction with the ultimate goal of ensuring that the sender of the message prepares it in a way that forecloses any hint of ambiguity. In this wise, the receiver has to be taken into consideration in the message encoding process so that the intended outcome is achieved.
Throughout the seven chapters of this book, the writer identifies the various modes of communication from the basic forms of verbal communication to the complex forms of by electronic means, from the simple interaction between people staying at a place to communicating with an indeterminate audience. The writer identifies the roles and expectations of each participant in the communication process: what to do and what not to do, in order for the parties to be on the same page in the information sharing experiences.
The part of the book that goes to the heart of the matter is the chapter in which he delves into the ‘golden rules’ that must be taken into consideration in order to communicate effectively and efficiently. He makes the point that to communicate effectively is not a given: there are hurdles and parties involved
