About this ebook

Man has three parts to his life: Physical Body, Mind and Spirit. A good understanding of each of these parts and their functions and inter-connectivity can help to build and live a good, healthy (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) life.
The power of our subconscious mind is infinite and, knowledge of the interaction of our conscious and subconscious minds can enable us to transform our whole life. In order to change the external conditions we must change the cause. The cause is in the conscious mind and the external conditions are the experiences. Whatever is sown in the subconscious mind by the conscious mind will grow and will yield outcomes and results. To remove discord, confusion, lack, and limitation, we must remove the cause, and the cause is in the way we use our conscious mind.
Effective mind management can lead us to achieve success in life. Good thoughts and positive attitude will enable us to live a good, meaningful and purposeful life.
If you are a mental health carer, this book introduces you to the spiritual aspects that need to be considered while helping the person suffering from mental health problems.

    Chapter 7 Summary and Conclusions

    Foreword

I am very delighted to be invited by Francis to write a foreword for his pioneering book. I have known Francis for many years, and I find him to be a person of strong willpower, who constantly stays focused and relentlessly putting consistent efforts towards achieving his goals. He is optimistic about what his future holds, and is full of self-confidence by having a complete trust in himself when embarking on his endeavours.

Francis has been involved in the field of human resource development for the past 40 years. His last position in a private sector organisation was as a head of Learning and Development Management Consultancy. Wanting to be independent and to be self-reliant, he left Sarawak Shell to set up his own human resource consulting firm. He has consulted in the areas of learning and development, personal change and transformation, performance improvement and management, leadership and management development, and organisational change. These areas are very much related to mind management, that is, the understanding of how our minds work and the reprogramming of the subconscious mind for change. He has conducted many workshops on stress and anxiety management, as well as courses on developing good health and extending youthfulness. He has trained and consulted a few thousand people in the Asian and Middle East countries. His corporate clients were both big multinationals as well as medium to large public listed and private owned companies. Among the multinationals are oil and gas companies, such as Shell, Exxon, Mobil, Caltex, Total, Chevron, Petronas, and Pertamina. He has also done a lot of work for government and quasi-government, as well as in the services industry, such as banks, hotels, and tourism-related organisations.

With a burning desire to share what he has learned and acquired from his education and training, and from his interactions with his clients during his training programs and consulting sessions, he has written this book on humans’ body, mind, and spirit. His inspiration in writing this book came from his vision that his readers will benefit from his ideas, which can help them to change and transform themselves, foremost to be successful in their performances, and leading them to live a more happy, meaningful, and purposeful life. The main focus of the book is on the mind and spirit of man, especially on the power of the subconscious mind and the role of spirituality in mental health care. It describes how the three minds (conscious, subconscious, and unconscious) work and the impact of spirituality on mental health conditions. The book also touches on the person’s mindset and mental paradigm. It tries to identify the main influencing factors affecting the development of mindset and the key determinants of a paradigm, and the effects of mindset and mental paradigm on a person’s behaviours or performance and on personal change and transformation. The book is not thick, only 150 pages, but each page is cramped with useful and interesting ideas that can help you to live a more rewarding and successful life.

    Preface

I have long been fascinated with the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit in the life of the human person, both as disparate but wholly connected facets of life and the outcome these display in terms of a person’s well-being, successes, and failures, howsoever defined.

This book is the result of my lifelong interest and continuing search for knowledge and wisdom. The topical areas of mind, body, and spirit may belie a linearity in both approach and level of complexity in understanding, but try as hard as one may, the realm of both mind and spirit poses a unique intellectual challenge. This challenge continues to confound thinkers both past and present. It will continue to do so in the future. For instance, one may say the spirit is the essential part of the human person. The living body encases the soul and spirit. The soul encases the spirit. At death, the physical body dies and decomposes, but the soul or spirit lives on. I have not in this book proceeded to delve into the realm of existentialism, transcendentalism, or the hereafter but to stay focused on the present and to try to weave the significant elements of interconnectedness and their influence on the personal life.

I hope the reader will find sustenance and encouragement in this book to help shape his or her life’s journey while living in this earthly world.

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thank my wife Winnie Juieng and my children for their understanding, support, and patience, without which the long hours of research and writing of this book would have been very difficult, especially because of my frequent travelling.

There are many other people (among them is Michael Gomis) who deserve thanks for their contributions to the process of putting together this book. However, I would like to acknowledge with special thanks my son Zandeflood Juieng and my secretary Victoria J. Perasa, who have both spent many hours helping me to do the editing of the text.

    Introduction

The book is about the human body, mind, and spirit. It highlights the functions and the interconnectedness of the functioning of the various parts of the body, mind, and spirit. It also highlights the purposes and the importance of efficient functioning of these various parts. Malfunctioning of any part or parts can affect well-being in life. In addition and, more importantly, it highlights the interconnectivity of the functioning of the brain and the mind.

This is not a comprehensive book about human body, mind, and spirit, especially the mind, which is a very expansive and complex subject – it is just an overview. It aims to describe and explain the key features, the functions, and the interconnections and relationships between the three parts of man and how one part can affect the other. It also seeks to highlight and explain the key spirituality elements and the strategy that need to be considered when dealing with mental health problems.

The book does not discuss factors that can affect the body physical health and the physiological functioning of the body. It does highlight that eating certain diets can help in building the body immune defence system against bacteria, cell mutation, toxins, but it does not discuss the types of food that are beneficial or harmful to health nor does it touch on lifestyle or environment that can affect health.

This book is not an academic text either. However, it is fully supported by available research. Those who wish to follow up on the academic aspects, especially on the subject of spirituality, references are given in the bibliography at the end of this book.

The book suggests that controlling and directing the subconscious mind is the key to personal change and transformation and achieving success in life. It also suggests that effective mind management can help in bringing about effective self-development and management as well as enabling fulfilment in life: overcoming sufferings and difficulties, attaining peace, harmony, contentment, good health, joy, and happiness.

In addition, the book highlights the importance of having right mindset as this affects the attitude. It suggests that having a positive and winning attitude is critical for success in life. It also highlights the importance of having a balanced wheel of life as
