    About The Author

    Introduction

The mind is a center of Divine operation. The Divine operation is always for expansion and fuller expression, and this means the production of something beyond what has gone before, something entirely new, not included in the past experience, though proceeding out of it by an orderly sequence of growth. Therefore, since the Divine cannot change its inherent nature, it must operate in the same manner with me; consequently, in my own special world, of which I am the center, it will move forward to produce new conditions, always in advance of any that have gone before.

A man named Thomas Troward uttered these words many years ago, and this quote awoke me to a new life. We all struggle with certain aspects of ourselves that affects our lives in ways we do not notice. Much of us are contempt with living life in this manner and merely tally up the bad situations that we face to That’s just how life is, as the saying goes. But life doesn’t have to be this way. We have within ourselves this potential to achieve much more than we can possibly fathom. Jesus Christ, Buddha, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein—these are just a few of the individuals who have undergone great transformations and experienced a level of growth that went on to not only impact their own lives but also the lives of many others. A lot having to do with how they interpreted their relationship to something beyond themselves and understood the essence of how powerful the mind is. It is individuals such as these who have altered how it is that we today interpret life itself.

But that doesn’t mean that they had something that you do not. Much in the same way that they were human beings, so are you. What we have in common with one another, including those mentioned, is far more numerous than what we don’t have in common. We have the ability of self-realization. Our only difference from those greats previously mentioned was that they recognized within themselves their true potential, which allowed them to achieve the great accomplishments they did. You also have within you that same capability, and all you need to do is become aware of it. In being committed to manifesting your true potential and allowing your illuminated beauty to shine forth, you too can contribute to humanity the same way that they did.

We humans all have this wonderful thing that we call the mind. Acknowledging the mind and understanding its ability is a beautiful thing. The mind is Divine in its nature, in that it has the ability to bring about changes that can create lasting effects upon anyone who takes the time to become acquainted with it. As Thomas Troward said, it is a center of Divine operation. It is partly due to the mind that we are able to function the way that we do and be conscious about it while we do what we do. Out of all the living beings that we presently share space with on this planet, it is we human beings who have such an ability. Because of this, we are able to realize certain things and make choices willingly and consciously that lead us to become something better. The mind is even so great that it allows us to reinterpret our relationship with it and that gives rise to the mind becoming molded by us. A single adjustment on your part can enhance your abilities and understanding in a way that you will move toward, as Troward said, expansion and fuller expression.

Moving toward expansion and fuller expression is that inherent need that is built into us. We all inherently have this desire to become better than we currently are. Remaining stagnant goes against our very nature. We desire to go beyond what has gone before and experience something entirely new not included in our past experiences. Learning is what provides the wisdom needed to do such, and experience is what grants us the opportunity to obtain that wisdom. But this is something that has to come from within. Unless you make the choice to awaken to your true nature and connect with your Higher Self, you won’t notice the joy that unity with the soul brings you. Yet nothing of this nature is made feasible without an orderly sequence of growth out of which it can proceed from.

When we are young, we are truly wild and free. Our minds have yet to be influenced to where we seldom do not stop wondering about the world and everything within it. We question and contemplate and play and carry on this connection with life where it doesn’t seem like it is this entity that is against us. In fact, when our minds are open and expanded, even during those years that are well beyond that of our youth, we are able to engage life in an intimate dance and maintain an open dialect with it.

As time progressed and I grew older, the influences of the world took hold within me and that connection, dialect, playfulness, and contemplation of my youth started to diminish. It is only when we continue to see ourselves and the world as a child sees it that we come to not only know but also experience that potential we have and what it is that we are capable of. Considering that I had forgot this, I began to feel comfortable with where I presently was. Remaining in that position, the autonomy of it eventually reached a certain point that I began to look elsewhere to provide me with the excitement that I no longer sensed life was providing.

When we become too pleased with where we are in life, we eventually hit a point where our lives becomes boring. To compensate for that, we turn to various things. It is these things that we use as compensation that ultimately lead to our demise. Sex, drugs, and alcohol are but a few of the main culprits, and such methods of compensation don’t actually provide us the fulfillment that we are seeking. But our ignorance prevents us from realizing this and if we don’t make a change, the same external things that we find so much pleasure in puts our life into a downward spiral. This is where most people find themselves, and this is exactly where I found myself several years ago as well.

Yet during this period, there was still something within me that wanted to push forward and undergo a transformation of sorts. It was something similar to a butterfly maturing and finally coming out of its cocoon. It was something like the beauty that illuminates the sky in the morning hours as the sun rises. The issue was that I lacked the awareness needed to pay attention to and honor what not only life but also my soul was trying to tell me. If we don’t heed these signs, we eventually come to face the consequences of our choices. In not giving attention to these subtle urges, these whispers of sorts, we turn more toward the external comforts of materials.

I am now able to look back upon this period of my life and see exactly where it was that I had allowed everything to truly go wrong. Working the hours that I did for a Fortune 500 company eventually took a toll on me. But the burden is not what wears you down—it is how you carry it. Carrying that burden was something that I had no clue how to do. Lacking the guidance and insight needed to alter my lifestyle in a way that is healthier for me, my ignorant lifestyle of turning toward external things to numb the pains of life placed me further into debt. As time would show, that which had initially started as something fun back in my younger years had now turned into a habit. In order to have the funds necessary to keep this habit going, I had to work more hours than normal. To compensate for working more hours than normal, I would turn toward other vices. It was a vicious cycle that continued to go on because one aspect of the cycle fed the other.

While certain external things appear to provide a release from life, all they actually do is cloud our eyes and prevent us from seeing the collateral damage that we are causing. I say collateral damage because what we do when we turn to the wrong things doesn’t damage only ourselves, it also damages everyone else around us. This is something that we quite possibly aren’t aware of, because our attention is so focused upon something that it shouldn’t be. Little was I aware of such, because the lifestyle that I was living at the time clouded my mind, and whenever life confronted me about this, I would once again turn back to substances and other forms of pleasure to numb the pain. Because of this, several of my relationships took a toll, and many rifts were caused between me and individuals who meant more to me than I cared to notice.

Eventually, life catches up with you. Certain things happen that are meant to happen so as to awaken you. The loss of my job, the accumulation of debt, and the distance now existing between myself and those closest to me took its toll, and a reevaluation of my life was needed. When things happen to you over and over in the same way, it’s not life that needs to change—it is you. Albert Einstein said it best when he said, The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Knowing much more now than what I did then, I not only understand the depth to what Einstein said, but I also experienced it. Crisis has this way of bringing about changes, and a crisis is what I found myself face to face with. As a matter of fact, a crisis is what some of you are currently experiencing but fail to notice. But don’t take it in a disheartening way. Due to us being who we are and being capable of what we are, the restructuring of certain things in our lives allows us the opportunity to experience transformation and growth.

Remember that because the Divine cannot change its inherent nature, it operates in the same manner with you. Since we humans possess a mind that is the reflection of a Divine operation, we can release ourselves of pain, suffering, and other types of discord. We can alter our interpretation of ourselves and of life. We can awaken to that underlying beauty that is the inherent quality of life itself, and we can experience a sense of joy unlike any other. Because your mind is yours, and the center of your life is that connection existing between you and the Divine, you can move forward and produce new conditions, always in advance of any that have gone before.

Now imagine, how much better we would be as individuals if we were more open to understanding ourselves? How much better would the world be if we all were more evolved and open to understanding others? How much further we would evolve collectively if we were to look toward each other rather than away?

Your answers to these questions are capable of being manifested. The experience of a better life is able to be accomplished. Within every moment you can find an experience that presents you with a way of evolving. This is how we learn and obtain the understanding of what causes us to grow, what nourishes our soul or depletes it, and what works for us and what doesn’t.

What I came to realize as I dove deeper into the teachings of humanities greatest scientific and spiritual teachers was an awareness of the fact that I am a sponge when it comes to learning from others and connecting the dots. I recognize connections where most people do not. It is this ability that has allowed me to connect the ideas of so many greats, and the knowledge and wisdom embodied within those ideas, in such a manner that I am able to explain to you a different way of seeing the world and yourself. As a matter of fact, I continue upon this path that I stepped on several years ago. The truth is once you see certain things and come to experience the truth of those things, your life truly alters. You shall never be able to unsee these things because you have expanded yourself to a dimension much greater than the one you were in before.

As I learned from these extraordinary people, my life grew exponentially. I have cleaned up myself. My character is the one thing for which I have the most regard. Some might say it’s to a fault because I am my own worst critic, but it is this ability to constantly adjust myself that permits me to continue growing and transforming into a better version of myself. My lifestyle has undergone a major transformation. I have distanced myself from my various vices. Within the last three years alone, I have gone back to school and gotten my associate’s in arts. I have eliminated all my previous debt and have established a budget that places me in a position to be able to do things that I wasn’t able to do before. All of this has been possible because when I was broke and struggling and quite possibly at the lowest point I’ll ever be in life, I made it a point to start consistently seeking out and listening to people who are steps ahead of me. It is because of this that I have become who I am. It is also because of this that I shall become greater than who I am.

When you take the wisdom of such extraordinary people and assimilate the lessons within that wisdom, you have no other option but to grow. The mere acceptance of such knowledge transforms you. Then you can continue to level up, so to say, making new connections and learning from other individuals who are a step ahead of you. This process shall continue. This is the power that our minds have, and you have the power within you to alter its connections and restructure your life so that you become something greater—not within any experience of the past, but proceeding out of it. You can expand yourself and your life to where you improve yourself and the world around you. This will bring none other than an enhancement to the way you live and to those experiences that you have in this lifetime. But none of this is possible unless you first see the connections, and that is where this book comes in.

This book is a result of several years of studying some of the greatest scientific and spiritual teachers of humanity and understanding what caused them to grow. Within these covers you will find information that will illuminate greater the light of awareness within you and allow you to produce new conditions. This book will provide you with insight that will bring you to realize who and what you are. This insight will reveal to you the potential that you are capable of reaching by understanding and enhancing the connection between your mind, your soul, and the universe.

A Soul’s Whisper: Connecting with your Higher Self has been organized into four parts. Each part presents to you a certain theme, and as you move through the parts in their sequential order, you will gradually experience an expansion of consciousness and will understand the connection existing between you and the universe in a more profound way. This will allow you to become more aware of who you are and what it is that you are capable of. In Part I we look at how your world has been influenced. You will come to know why you are who you are and what determines that to the greatest degree. This will allow you to expand your mind and reach a higher level of consciousness, which will allow you to establish a new foundation upon which a new understanding of yourself can take root in and flourish out of. In embracing the information shared with you in the first section, you will come to know a level of peace and power unlike any you have ever experienced.

By way of this peace and the power that it brings, you will then be able to exert your power to determine what it is that you want to experience. This is what we shall go more into depth in the second part of the book. It is in this section that your power of choice will be explained, and you will come to understand that your choices reach out into the universe and affect more than just yourself. Embracing this ability allows you to manifest what it is that you would like to manifest. But in order for the new to come in, a space must be created for it. This space is created by way of the interdependency of life. In establishing a new foundation, in other words a new understanding of yourself, the universe will reflect back to you your intention of expanding into a fuller expression of your Higher Self. It is by way of the interdependency of life that we allow our authenticity to shine forth and make an impact.

Moving on to Part III, we take what has been revealed in Part I and Part II and use that information to continue our journey of becoming. In this section we will discuss more the importance of our values, perceptions, and beliefs. The combination of our values, perceptions, and beliefs play a major role in defining the experiences that we have, and ultimately it is our understanding of the experiences we have that determines our reality. One can say that our values and beliefs are the models that we have that create our reality, and the habits and practices we use to execute those values and beliefs can be seen as the systems that we use for living. There are positive and empowering values and beliefs, and there are also negative and disempowering values and beliefs. The restructuring of these models of reality and systems for living that no longer serve our evolution is what allows us to transform, grow, and become greater than we presently are. Part III will provide you with information as to how you can alter your relationship to what no longer serves your evolution. It will also provide you with the 4 steps to freedom from suffering that you can implement immediately in your life to experience greater love, joy, and peace. Life does reflect back to us the experience we are having internally, so imagine what happens when we expand ourselves and release the negativity we have held onto for so long.

The last section of this book shall reveal to you the essence that allows all of these transformations to occur. Effort will be made to put into words an experience that words truly fall short of defining. Connecting with your Higher Self is in and of itself mystical, yet beautiful. When we uncover the truth about reality; come to embrace the Divine within us; use our authentic power to create; alter our values, perceptions, and beliefs; become mindful of our thoughts; and have greater reverence toward life and our being, we will experience an experience that is truly Divine. Self-realization brings you to where you undergo a transformation that allows for a greater understanding of who you are. Not only will your mind evolve, but so will your soul. In the evolution of both of them, where they intermingle with one another and your life becomes the expression of that connection, you will come to know a depth to life whose
