This book provides knowledge about certain subjects which deal with the mind, its structure and function, with spillover of other topics forming an adjunct to and give support and evidence for the subject matter. References to and concepts from the writings of Carl Gustav Jung and Sigmund Freud have been taken. Sigmund Freud is well known as the founder of the theory of mind, about dream structure and interpretation, and the method of psychoanalytical presentation, for general understanding.
The world is changing very fast due to technological advances. To keep track of the latest in every field is becoming more and more difficult. Indeed, technology has so much impact on the society, that the cultural norms change much faster than before. Everyday there is a new software, every six months there is a new technology. Internet, electronics and other associated areas have changed the world so much, that it reflects the fast development of the human mind, especially the cerebral cortex—the gray matter of the brain—which is the outer covering of the brain. It contains highly specialized cells, connected to each other, with thousands of chemical reactions regulating the functions of the body. The energy associated with these cells produces consciousness, which makes us aware of our own self and the objective world. These cells cannot be regenerated, and are vulnerable to damage, producing signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders, which are related to consciousness. The core of the conscious mind is the ego, which apart from making one aware of oneself and the surrounding world, regulates the processes of the brain. It has four main functions:
thinking
emotions
sensation, by the five senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and sound
intuition
The thinking function has been given more importance over the years, to the extent that it ignores the existence of other functions of the brain, which involve the white matter; much older than gray matter in the evolutionary scale. It contains all the bygone past ever since life began on Earth, in the form of symbols and images. Only some of these images surface into the gray matter, and hence become conscious.
The over development of thinking, when directed outwards for monetary gains, inhibits the impulses which are natural and in accordance with the genetic makeup.
In other words, the ego has stopped looking inwards. Adaptation to the fast-changing external environment takes all its time and energy. Hence restriction of consciousness (giving it a break) has become a matter of importance and immediate attention, so that one looks within.
CHAPTER 1:
Bio Energy & Prana
It’s a beautiful world;
The oceans and the trees;
The unpolluted breeze;
The lofty mountains and the greens;
What else should we want?
Only to live with ease;
Without the mindless fear
Of a world without us.
Eons ago creation started with a Big Bang, in the gaseous form. The swirling mass went on expanding, which continues today. From this gaseous mass came the stars, planets, asteroids, and comets. Galaxies were formed, each galaxy containing (on average) one hundred billion stars. Approximately ten billion galaxies exist.
Every star releases energy in the form of radiation. In our galaxy the Sun forms the center, with the planets revolving around it in their respective orbits at different distances from the sun, at an angle of 23.5 degrees to the circumference of the Earth at its center. This forms our solar system.
The sun releases radiation like heat and light, and radioactive rays. The life on Earth depends on certain types of radiation for survival.
All living beings are exposed to radiation, some of which (heat and light) can be felt, while others remain hidden but, nonetheless, exist. These are collectively called cosmic radiation, which form an energy field around plants, animals, human beings, and all solid matter, which contain this energy in condensed form. The same energy is also called the Life Force, Bio energy or, according to Hindu psychology, The Prana.
As all forces became liberated when the Universe took its birth, all types of energy and matter came from the same explosive energy released at the time of the Big Bang. Although all matter looks lifeless; it is energy in condensed form. The transfer of energy to matter and matter to energy goes on continuously in the universe as has been proved by the Einstein’s equation E=mc² (Energy = mass multiplied by square of the speed of light, which is about 300000 Kms per second).
The Bio energy is a form of the same Universal Energy which creates and sustains all forms of matter and life.
Life forms have this energy in abundance. Good health is an indicator of this energy present in adequate amount in plants, animals, and humans. Disease, on the other hand, is the inability of the organism to absorb it in optimal amounts. Thus, health has the capacity to draw the Life Energy into the body in abundance. But many of us are not able to do so because of physical or mental blocks.
The human body has evolved over thousands of years of adaptation to its surroundings, which brought challenges to survival. These were overcome by development of different mechanisms including reflex actions, intuition, and
