    Acknowledgements

First of all I personally acknowledge My God, I am only because He loves me! If not for his great love for me, not one word of poetry in this book that I have written would have been wrote, spoke, or thought…. He is the only reason that I am here today……………. . He IS….therefore I Am…

    Dedication Page

I would like to dedicate this book of poetry to my late parents Rose and Arthur Epps Sr., I am a product of my ancestral linage and all the people who have planted seeds of knowledge in me, that is springing forth right now in my life and in this book. I am still learning and growing from my parents teachings. They are with me now more than ever before.

My Mother the late Rose Mae Epps, was a beacon of hope whom taught me how to unconditionally love and care for people by her actions through hospitality and a great meal, and my father the late Arthur Epps Sr., was a Master Story teller, passing on family history, medical holistic cures, fishing, and gardening techniques in his own skillfully captivating poetic style…

I also would like to dedicate this book to Mrs. Betty O’Bryant, a woman who LOVES ME just the way I am… Our friendship and conversations mean more to me than she will ever know……Betty O’Bryant encourages me, she inspires me, she uplifts me she supports me, she believes in me, she fusses at me but most of all she LOVES ME!..……….

Betty O’Bryant has fused a permanent place in my heart….and I will love her forever…

    -Sharon D. Epps-

    Using the Gift

I am a child of God

one that he himself set free

    I dealing with my life

using the gift he gave to me.

Two things you need to know

    that earnestly pertain to me

I am a child of God

using the gift he gave to me.

    I struggled in this world

I was bound and blind you see

I’m now writing my own history

I am God’s! Is my decree.

    I stand before you grateful

as grateful as I can be

because I am a child of God

using the gift he gave to me.

For when I open my mouth

pure words of gratitude flow free

and I am wrapped up in his love

and his promises of what shall be.

Two things you need to remember

if you should ever think about me,

know that I am a child of God

and I’m using the gift he gave to me!

    Only Because You Love Me

    You faithfully lead me

    and Lord I follow,

    though sometime I foolishly

    stray away.

    But your heavenly voice

    is my hearts beacon,

    guiding me back

    on my path paved way.

    Your Joy wakes me up

and your Peace puts me to bed.

    Your Word is my supper

and I ate and got feed.

    My mountains are high

and my goal is the top,

    Lord you got my hand,

    so I know I won’t stop.

    I’m content with my life

    and content with myself,

I now know who I am

    couldn’t be no one else.

    My past made my future

    I’m seeking your face,

I know it’s only by grace

that I run in this race.

    Each day is my present

    thou sometimes there’s pain,

    My ladder is greater

so I dance in the rain.

    Content with myself

    surprised as could be,

    I Am who I Am

    Only Because You Love Me

    B.C.

I used to be a heathen

    living a heathenistic life.

    But that was all B.C.

    before my savior Jesus Christ.

    I did not like myself
