    A Tribute

Our purpose on this earth is not achieved

until we teach others to recognize and

    accomplish theirs.

    Sheila R. Smart

My incredible mother, Clarice, was the epitome of sophistication, elegance and charm. She taught by her actions how to love, care, share, forgive, listen and be kind to others. After Father’s death, Mother single-handedly undertook her parenting responsibilities for my two siblings and I in a very brave and stouthearted manner. Not only did she shower us with unconditional love and provided a very privileged upbringing—piano and polo lessons, nannies, cooks, housekeepers, gardeners and chauffeurs—but ensured that we were grounded spiritually, educationally and socially.

Further, these teachings of the principles of life and gentility did not overshadow the knowledge she imparted in the art of preparing mouthwatering dishes unique to the Jamaican cuisine.

As the twenty-first anniversary of her departure from this life nears, I rejoice knowing that her life on earth was not wasted. Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ moved her and her children to follow in His footsteps.

She has found a place of joy and rest. My mother is greatly missed.
