About this ebook

Your will is constantly being engaged with daily decisions. It’s time you take control over the influences that have been directing your will!

The advertising and marketing world have studied how we react to life for years, while most people turn and look the other way on the topic of the will. We have measured the will from a performance perspective for far too long while denying that the will is a part of our identity that connects us to God and constantly looking at what happens instead of examining why things happen. Becoming aware of the influences of the will allows us the freedom of pursuing God’s will and our life’s purpose. We no longer have to discuss free will without a clear perspective on how it relates to the responsibilities of freedom. It’s time to begin using our will to create God’s glory and call our purpose into order by acknowledging our dominion over our will and the relationships it engages.

Hermon Cotton searches out the scriptures to explore what God has revealed to us about the influences of the will and how it relates to everyday life. This book is equipped with scripturally sound tools and insights for understanding the influences of the will’s impact on everyday life. You can align your desires, plans, and motives with God’s will for a purposeful and meaningful life.

In this book, you will learn
• how the influences of the will impact your everyday life and shapes your destiny,
• how to understand how your will relates to God’s plan on earth
• how the influences of the will can help you become the overcomer God called you to be, and
• how to align your will with the Holy Spirit and reflect God’s glory.

Plus, thoughtful moments are included with each main topic for reflection and application. The Thoughtful moments include a concluding concept, foundational scripture, and thoughtful questions that will reinforce your grasp on the influences on your will as you begin living to make God’s glory known.

God doesn’t want you blind to marketing strategies that engage your will daily. He has already given you the identity of his child made in his image and likeness. So now it time to use our will like Jesus Christ, our model for aligning our will with God’s will. So start reading your copy of Influences of the Will today and dive into a deeper understanding of your God-designed will as it relates to everyday life!

    About The Author

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I vaguely remember one of the saddest days of my childhood. I was ten years old when I got the news that my sister had passed. I remember running outside and sitting in the ditch in front of my house crying because of the anger and array of emotional influences that came over me. I didn’t know how to handle it, but I knew my life would be forever changed because of her missing presence. That day it really dawned on me that she was ill. Being the youngest of eight siblings, I simply tried to just stay out of the way of everybody having the right to whip me. So before that day, I did not realize the toll that cancer had taken on my sister because she lived so full of life. Her will to live outshined all the negative attributes that came with cancer. When I look back on our life, we never treated her like she was handicapped, and she never allowed us to treat her as if she needed us to live her best life. It was almost like she took cancer by the throat and said, Hold on because the roller-coaster ride is still moving.

Before being diagnosed with cancer, she decided to run track and field for our local high school (Humphreys County High School). She was so excited to be running track with her friends and classmates. At the team physical, they drew blood and the doctor noticed something was not right with her blood. He requested that my mom take her to UMC Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Then UMC referred her to St. Jude’s hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. That was the day we found out she had bone cancer (osteosarcoma). My oldest sister, Deborah, recalled having a conversation with her on that day. Brenda said, They said I’ve got cancer, but I don’t feel that sick. I don’t have cancer. Deborah looked at her and said, Really? Cancer? You are going to be fine.

So Brenda kept living her life to the fullest in spite of her illness. There were times when her ankles would swell, and she would say her legs felt hot or painful, but she never stopped moving even after the doctor had to amputate one of her legs. After being told that she had six months to live, she fought cancer back for an additional blessed ten years and seven months. She refused to be put in a box. I can remember her being the only fearless girl on the block with one leg to ride our homemade go-cart. She did all my sisters’ and neighbors’ hair, loved fashion, played kickball, graduated from high school, enrolled in college, and loved to travel and meet new friends. Most of all she taught us what it meant to be a part of a family. Family members should always be willing to support one another, especially when uncontrolled circumstances cause life to be challenging. She also taught us how to inspire one another and be inspired. Although we are far from perfect, we all know the beauty of family supporting family through challenges.

Brenda and our family could not have weathered the storms of cancer without the help and support of extended family, friends, neighbors, and church family. They all played a vital role in supporting and encouraging us day in and day out. To this day we all stay in touch with Brenda’s friend Craig Irwin because of his unfailing friendship that my sister valued so much. The Dodd family provided a home away from home where she could go when she wanted to simply get out the house. Reverend Dodd actually gave Brenda a room in the house, although we lived right across the street. Also countless neighbors, cousins, and friends kept her playful and
