Author

Mary Martinen

Mary Martinen is a retired physician living in the Detroit area with her cats. She started writing because she thought it would be fun, and because she wanted to share her cat, Panther, with other cat lovers. She has published articles in the medical literature but this is the first children’s series of books. She hopes that the reader will enjoy the book as much as she enjoyed writing it. Cheryl Phillips has been an artist her entire life. Whether or not she was taking coursework she was always creating something of beauty. Currently she works in her studio in Farmington Hills. She can be reached at cphillips@mercywmw.org.

P anther has been a cat of many adventures. When he passed a door that was ajar, he would try to see behind it even though it may get him into trouble. To chase him from behind the door his Person would pound on it. Then he would dash frightfully from behind it and run for safety. When he felt the breeze of a warm summer’s day beyond a screen door, and felt the sun soothing his thick, black, heat-absorbing fur, he would cry and whine to go out, even when his Person told him No. He would keep yowling until his Person couldn’t stand it anymore and would open the door for him to go outside. He had trained her very well.

She is a tall person with a slim build and blond hair. She is quick to laugh at the antics of Queen and Panther and feels that she is never alone because of them.

She is their Person. She can’t be their Owner. Everyone knows that cats are not owned. She can’t be his Mother, because that is demeaning to a cat. They think they are much more capable than a mere human, so they would never be closely related to them.

Panther and his Person could talk to one another. He didn’t use words, but she learned to understand his body language and the different growls and yowls he made as he expressed his needs to her. He understood
