    PROLOGUE

Stephanie rolled up to the gate at Camp Pendleton and asked to see the base commander or Frank Walker. Who should I say is here? asked the guard. Tell them it’s Stephanie Waters, they’ll know who I am.

Hi Stephanie, said Frank waving his hand. Why don’t you come in and I’ll buy you cup of coffee.

    Hello Sergeant Walker.

You don’t need to call Sergeant, Stephanie, just Frank.

Ok Frank, I have a favor to ask of you. I want to go through basic training like CJ did.

Why would you want to do that Stephanie?

In the job interviews I’ve had, many of the recruiters said that I lacked confidence. How does someone get confidence without experience? CJ has what I want, to be able to go through basic training and gain experience, poise and confidence, Stephanie stated.

I’ll ask the base commander but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

While Frank was asking the commander the favor she knew she had a friend in high places, she won’t make that phone call if she doesn’t have to, but it’s still a possibility.

Frank Walker returned fifteen minutes later, The base commander said no way. CJ was an exception. Besides it is extremely hard, we’ve got fully grown men who start throwing up after four hours of what we put them through.

If I have to, I’ll make the call and go over your heads and I don’t want to that but if I have to, I will, you know who I’ll call.

Yeah, I know. I guess that what friends are for. The commander said to try and talk you out of this, which I did, but he knows what friends you have and what phone call you can make. There’s a new class starting in two weeks’ time. You better start getting in shape and lift some weights, we’ll see you on the 15th at 7am sharp.

Thank you, Frank, I appreciate it.

Don’t thank me yet, maybe if you get through the first two weeks.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Senator’s Daughter

Mary Adkins is the daughter of United Sates Senator Margaret Adkins of Ohio. She had just finished her 3rd year of college at Northwestern and wanted to travel to Thailand during the summer but needed a friend to go along, traveling be yourself can be dangerous and not as much fun. She decided to ask her friend JoAnn Cummings if she would like to go along but she didn’t have the money to travel. Mary said, I’ll pay your way, my mom and dad will be happy that I’ll bring a friend along for safety. Margaret and Bob Adkins had divorced when Mary was 15 years old and after the divorce, her dad moved back to Chicago, then her mom was elected to the US senate. Mary was kind of left on her own with just housekeepers raising her. Mary was very pretty with sandy blond hair and an athletic build, the same as JoAnn, but she had beautiful raven colored hair with the bluest eyes she had ever seen. They booked their flight to Bangkok for day after school got out for the summer. They would stay at the Bangkok Hilton, right on the river and close to the shopping district. Their plan was to spend two weeks exploring the national parks in and around Bangkok.

After checking into their hotel, JoAnn suggested, We should check in at the Embassy to see if there are parts of Thailand that we should stay away from, my mom said we should, said JoAnn.

When Mary and JoAnn got to the Embassy they asked someone in uniform, Are their areas of Thailand that aren’t safe for US citizens? Where were thinking of going? asked the uniformed man.

We were thinking of going to some National Parks, said Mary.

Khao Yai is close by and it’s Thailand’s version of Yellowstone, extremely beautiful and it has a waterfall that’s out of this world, said the man. What hotel are you girls staying at?

We’re at the Hilton, said JoAnn.

I’m sure that they have a concierge’s desk that could help you find transportation to the park. And, the only area that would like to stay away from is the bar district, it’s a little seedy for two beautiful young women, such as yourselves.

After Mary and JoAnn had left, the uniformed man stepped outside and checked to make sure he was alone, opened his cell phone and made a call. Hi, we’ve got two more girls. I’m sending them out to the park. I’ll call the hotel and make sure that we get the right driver for these girls.

We still need four or five more girls, I’ve got buyers coming in from Iran, Dubai, a couple from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and from Japan. This group could be worth a couple of million, if we have the merchandise available, said the man in a heavy Russian accent.

    I’ll take care of it.

Good morning Dao, I’m sending a couple of girls your way to send out to the park, make sure you use Alak, ok?

Yes sir, I’ll make sure to take care of the girls.

Mary and JoAnn got back to the hotel and walked up to the concierge’s desk and asked, Can you book us transportation out to the National Park called, Khao Yai? said Mary.

Certainly, when would you like to go? asked the lady at the desk.

Tomorrow, if you can get it arranged.

Let me make some calls and I can contact you in your room, what’s your room number?

    We’re in room 923.

Ten minutes later the phone in room 923 rang, Hello, it’s Dao from the concierge’s desk, your driver’s name will be Alak, he’s driven to the park many times and he’ll be here tomorrow at 8am.

    Ok, thanks Dao, said Mary.

The next day Mary and JoAnn came down to find Alak waiting to drive them. They took off for a great day in the park. Do you girls speak Thai?

    No, we’re sorry, we don’t.

The people who work at the park can speak many languages because we get visitors from all around the world, but if you need an interrupter, I’ll be happy to assist you.

    Thank you Alak.

Would you mind if I call my wife, she worries about me driving strangers.

Two hours later they arrived at the park. When you’re ready, I’ll be here in the car taking a nap. Stop at the visitor’s center and they can provide you with a map to the park. The girls headed out to enjoy all the park amenities and sights, especially the waterfalls.

Two hours later Alak’s phone rang. We’re done, you can go home.

CJ was sitting in the office of Tom Polk, the stunt coordinator working on the latest Fast and Furious film. We were working out the details of a very dangerous stunt involving six cars with a rollover at high speeds.

The director wants at least six rollovers of the Charger, said Tom.

If he wants six rollovers, then the speed will have to increase to… about 100 miles per hour. Is he able to keep the cameras rolling through the shot to get the effect he wants? asked CJ.

I think 100 is about right, CJ. Are you ready that much speed?

It might be better at add more roll bars under the car for more stability. But, yeah, I can make that work. What do you think Tom?

We’ll set the car up any way you want it, safety first, you know me," said Tom.

We’ve got a week to get the car ready then.

    CJ had a vibration in his pocket, his phone, a text message. He opened up his messenger and read;

I need Bing Crosby tomorrow at the shack, 9am if possible.

CJ knew it was from the President, it had only been sixteen weeks since his return from Asia after getting Admiral Waters out of North Korea. CJ just responded with an ‘OK.’ How could there be another crisis so soon after the last one, he thought? Was it something to do with North Korea, maybe Admiral Waters.

CJ said his goodbye to Tom and said he’ll check in with him throughout the week, to make sure the car is ready. CJ headed home to pack for a week, hopefully less. CJ wasn’t sure what to pack for, this not going to be a vacation, he thought. At 8am, CJ headed south towards San Diego to Camp Pendleton where the President had his, what he called, his shack. The shack was really a 2-bedroom house, very sparse, but nice, comfortable furniture. This is where the President relaxed from his job of running the country, the Western White House the press called it.

CJ arrived at Camp Pendleton at 8:45am and stopped to get a visitor’s pass from the guard house. Even though most of the Marines on base knew CJ, he still needed to get a pass to have access to the base. He was met by Corporal Stills, whom CJ knew, Hi Harry, how are you, asked CJ.

    I’m fine, and yourself?

I’m good. I’m here to see the President.

He arrived about an hour ago. We knew you were coming.

CJ knocked on the door to the shack. Come in.

Good morning sir, how are you?

I’m fine CJ, this is Senator Margaret Adkins from Ohio.

    Nice to meet you Senator.

It’s nice to meet you too, CJ.

Senator, why don’t you explain to CJ your situation, said the President. I’ve already told the Senator about you and your experience, including that North Korea episode.

It’s about my daughter, Mary, she’s missing. She was going to Thailand with a friend and I haven’t heard from her for six days. She’s disappeared before, but not for six days. I was wondering if you could please find my daughter?

What do you mean she’s disappeared before? asked CJ.

She was in Florida, on vacation and I didn’t hear from her for three days and I asked the FBI if they might be able to locate her, and they did. The next time she was in Columbia, again on vacation from school, and the CIA helped find her. But this time it feels different, I don’t know how or why I feel this way, but I know she’s in trouble.

"Thank you, Margaret. Why don’t you go to the mess hall for some lunch, I’ll join you in a few minutes. Bob, the Secret Service agent outside the door will show you where it is. Let me talk with CJ, I’ll try to
