Silhouettes of Life: Poems of Inspiration and Love
()
About this ebook
With the birth of grandchildren, I became more introspective and reflective of my own legacy and message.
Barbara Feltquate
Barbara Feltquate is a cool grandmother with a knack for connecting to kids whether by enthralling them throwing a spiraling football or by spinning imaginative tales. Her spiritual side resonates with all ages and genders who find comfort and validation in her uplifting poetry. After a career in Health Care Management, retirement offered her the time and opportunity to fulfill her desire to write. Combining her creativity, her love for children, and her concern for nature, “Be Kind to the Environment” took on wings. A primer, a good beginning for curious minds to explore the vocabulary of the environment. Children can have fun learning while having an awareness of their surroundings. Early teaching can give a better understanding of nature and the options we can all choose to live in a kinder world.

Acknowledgments
Silhouettes of Life is dedicated to my grandchildren—Brad, Alex, Ethan, and Jakob—in hopes that I will give them something tangible to remember their grandmother by and the hidden gift may be to give them a better understanding of the person they are becoming or have become. I hope they find a little bit of their grandmother in themselves.
Prologue
THE WONDER OF POETRY
Poetry brings out spirituality
Poetry takes us to a place of peace
Poetry offers introspection and hope
Poetry comforts us when we grieve
Poetry enhances our celebratory joy
Poetry enables us to reveal our inner selves
Poetry is a refuge for stillness and clarity
Poetry shows a power greater than ourselves
A poet’s greatest joy is when
the reader relates and the words resonate.
—Barbara Feltquate
Chapter 1
Spiritual
When You See Through Your Heart
You view the world as God intended
Notice the joy found in simplicity
Become colorblind as skin tones blend into oneness
Celebrate the aged face lined with wisdom and beauty
Discover the softness in a hardened soul
Embrace the richness of diversity
Realize harmony on earth is a possibility
Where Is God?
God surrounds us everywhere
In verdant soil and breezy air
God is the goodness in everyone
Anguished soul or wayward son
God resides deep in our heart
The merciful and forgiving part
God loves us and will dry our tears
Shouldering many of our hidden fears
God forgives and absolves our sin
Even if we are struggling within
God carries us through perilous fright
Whether turbulent storm or dark night
God vanishes prejudice and hate
Wisdom and love—our crowning fate
God guides us from the moment of birth
We are His vessel for peace on earth
Finding Strength
No one travels the journey through life
Without facing problems and some strife
The more we are tested, the more it becomes clear
We find strength we did not know was there
The enlightened among us recognize
The presence of God before our eyes
He leads us through the trouble and pain
Showing our faith and trust are not in vain
This wisdom is not easily achieved
Life’s experiences go into the weave
God is the source of comforting light
A shining beacon through the night
We all share a component of God inside
Where our courage and resiliency reside
When challenges surface as they often do
God’s strength is never far from you
Laughter
Laughter is like a powerful magical potion
Reducing pain and setting healing into motion
Laughter is more valuable than great wealth
Its curative powers can improve your health
Laughter can convert the meanest person
Into someone nicer and much less fearsome
Laughter can transform a stiff, stern pout
Into a hilarious, carefree, jubilant shout
Laughter may stop hostile conflicts and war
It is hard to be angry if you giggle before
Laughter is contagious and grows rapidly
Passing it from person to person is the key
Enchanted Place
Over the hill and through the wood
A charming and enchanted cottage stood
The sun sparkled on the windowsill
The air was fragrant and very still
A pathway of flowers so beckoning
A welcome song that the birds sing
Inside vivid colors please the eye
Glistening rooftops to see the sky
The view so splendid over the bay
Not a problem stands in your way
This quiet and calming simplicity
Brings forgotten pleasures back to me
When solitude you need to find
Take this relaxing sojourn in your mind
Here in this mystical, enchanted place
God puts a smile back on your face
Principles to Live By
Do not take more than your
