PREFACE

This volume of poetry was compiled from a body of work originally published on the crowd-funding platform Patreon over a two-and-a-half year period.

It is not all the poems I wrote during that time, it’s not even all the poems I published on Patreon.

These are the poems that gained the most interest, comments and feedback. Some were actively voted in or out by my Patrons (the people who support my poetry writing financially every month on Patreon).

Once I had made a selection, these poems were all edited and in some cases extensively re-written. In that sense, these are totally new versions of the work that appears on my Patreon page.

Diane Coetzer lent her vast experience as an editor to that process, which has made this a better, less messy book. Any errors that remain are mine alone!

This collection would not have been possible without Patreon. It kept me writing, it kept me focused and it has improved my work. And of course, the fact that I have paying Patrons kept me very anxious to deliver the poems so that they could see what they were supporting.
