The author is a retired high school administrator who spent the majority of his career in rehabilitation work assisting individuals with disabilities prepare for the world of work and to live independently in the community. He also participated for many years in the sports arena as an amateur baseball player, a successful coach, and, for over thirty-seven years, as a football and basketball sports official. Music has been another major interest of the author beginning in his early grade school years and extending through and beyond retirement. His music participation has ranged from playing in local big bands of the ’40s to jazz combos, to old-time “umpa” bands. Over the years he has also served as a leader in a wide variety of educational, social, and community action organizations.
