    It all started,

    with one word

    at a coffee shop

    where you ordered Americano,

    while speaking French.

    Bonjour.

    Bonjour.

    She looked in to his eyes,

    brown,

    and remembered

    what her mother

    said, that some boys

    have eyes made of quicksand.

    When you fall for it, there is no way out.

    You’ve never seen anything like her before, have you? She stood next to you like a bird with wings made of fire—a sweet, burning torture to your cold, longing soul that cried Hello in a tongue she does not speak. And she smiled. Her eyes weeping for this moment. So beautiful; yet, lost.

    It only takes a sole language for two souls to connect:

    Love.

    Renee.

    Two syllables.

    The air took a ride to your palate and escaped from your lips in two steps, leaving you wanting more.

    He talks a lot about places, fancy places I don’t see myself going to yet he calls paradise. And I smiled because there is only one heaven I want to be at which he never knew:

    you feel about yourself

    when you are
