THE FAST LIFE
At seven in the morning, the alarm clock goes off. Rock opened his eyes to smell bacon and eggs in the air. Jumping out of bed, putting his Louis Vuitton flip-flop on while taking off his wave cap, he was thinking about what to wear to school. So he walks to his closet and took out the collared cream shirt with the buttons down in the middle and the blue Stacy Adams polo jeans with cream and lay them on the bed. Rock, smiling because he likes to look good, at least that’s what the girls told him, goes to the bathroom to take a shower and brushes his teeth. Looking into the mirror, he checks out his body as he walked out, wondering what the girls see in him. Mom shouted out, Are you going to eat, honey?
He yelled, I’m about to get dressed, Mom. I will be there in five minutes.
So he gets dressed looking in the mirror, putting on his diamond-studded earrings, thinking where was his keys. He yelled out, Mom, have you seen my keys?
Yes, boy, now come and eat.
So Rock goes to the kitchen looking upset. Mom, where are my keys?
Rock, sit down. Your keys are by your plate. Be a good boy at school.
Rock smells her sweet perfume as she walks out the door to go to work as an LVN at Tarts Nursing Home. Rock, taking out his phone, calls his best friend Trey Sky, but everyone knew him as Sky because he was all ways high, and Sky believed that the sky was the limit. Sky answered, Hey, bro, where you at.
Rock, grabbing his keys, replies, On the way over to your house.
Okay,
Sky says, hanging up the phone. Rock goes outside and opens the door and pops his hood on the Firebird and went underneath the car to grab the pitcher of oil. Then unscrewing the oil cap, he poured the oil back in because the car had a slow oil leak. Then putting the oil cap back on, he then set the pitcher on the ground then closes the hood.
Meanwhile, Sky is playing the video game with his little brother Mike. Rock pulls up the Firebird in Sky’s driveway. Sky heard the Firebird pull up and said, See you later, little buster,
walking to the screen door, pausing because he forgot his lucky dice in his room. So he went back to his room, but he could only find one because little Mike took it for calling him a buster. Sky said, Mike, where are my goddamn dice.
Mike looks at him and said, Now, who’s the buster, punk?
Sky clenched his fist and said, You fucking little dick
and shot out the screen door getting in the Firebird with Rock. Rock said, What the fuck took you so long, Sky?
taking out a plastic bag with weed and a blunt wrap, I almost killed my little brother, man. That motherfucker took my dice, you know that’s how I make my money.
Rock said, Bitch, stop crying you know I got dice,
Sky said, lighting up the blunt.
As they backed up out of the driveway going to school, Rock started to think about the dice game because he usually sidebets on Sky’s dice games when he had good feeling. But if Rock didn’t have a good feeling, Sky wouldn’t even play because he knew the odds of him losing money. Rock pulls up to their high School, Tech Cinnamon Rock, grabbing the dice out the backseat; they both got out the car. Rock thinking, Fuck, I forgot that pitcher, as Rock and Sky started walking. Sky, putting his dreads in a rubberband walking along the gate outside of the school, headed to the back of the gym because that’s where the dice game happens. Most students and personnel that attended the school knew them, and they were like two peas in a pod. Most girls knew that Sky was sexy but Rock was even sexier, and conceited guys knew that you couldn’t get to Rock without going through Sky, and they were well-built boys. Sky saw a girl walking their way. Sky said, Rock, do you see that girl? She wants me.
Rock said, Man, that girl is not even thinking about you.
Sky said, Watch this, say let me talk to you, girl,
while reaching for her arm. She knew that Sky was conceited because girls talk about him. She thought he was cute but the way he approached her was all wrong. She shouted out, Boy, don’t touch me, you don’t even know me.
Sky said, All I want is to know you name.
She said, You’re not going to get anyone’s name with that lame line, you need to come correct.
Sky looks back and sees Rock laughing his ass off, grabbing on the bars of the gate. Rock said, Go on playa playa.
Sky said, Miss, calm down, don’t act like that.
She looked at him, saying, Crystal Berry.
Sky said, Miss Berry, I seen you walking by and I wonder could I have a moment of your time.
She started to smile. Perfect gentleman, I knew you had it in you.
Miss Berry, can I call you sometime if that’s okay with you.
Of course,
and started writing down on a piece of paper she pulled out from her notebook. Crystal said, Call me
walking past Rock. Rock said, She is sexy, bro.
They walked around the gym. The dice game had already started. Sky went to the circle and said, Put your money where your mouth is.
Everybody looked. I guess nobody understands that,
so he pulls out a stack of fives. Kevin said, Put up or shut up.
Kevin was a kid they knew since they were little. Kevin said, I go ten out their bet ten.
Sky said, Fuck that, make it twenty,
peeling back the stack of money. Kevin hesitated. Fuck it, bro.
He put down another ten knowing he was down one hundred-fifty, so he had dipped into some of his re-up money. Most people didn’t know but Sky and Rock knew he sold pills because that’s how he made all his money. Kevin’s mother works at a pharmacy as a pharmacy, so he just takes the pills when he wanted to from her. Rock said, Here is the dice, bro,
handing the dice to Sky.
Kevin looked at Sky because he already had dice, but he knew Sky would say We are playing with these so if you got a problem get the fuck up.
Kevin said, Fuck it. Roll that shit.
Sky looking at Rock and Tim making a wager, Sky hit the dice on the ground then rolled. He rolled a seven on the first roll. Rock pointed at Tim. Give me that shit,
taking the money off the ground. Kevin looking at Sky, Kevin said, Double or nothing.
Sky said, The money still out there, is it.
Kevin pulling out forty dollars throwing it in the circle. Sky looking around to see if Rock got any bidders; no one was betting Rock so Sky rolled and it came out to be a five. Smith thinking that’s a harder number to get than an eight or six smith said, I got twenty against your boy, Rock.
Rock threw his money on the ground because everybody that gambles knows money on the wood makes the gambling good but in this case the ground.
Sky rolled another five; Smith said, My money wasn’t even down, sorry I have nothing for you,
with a malicious smile. Smith really didn’t know Rock that well other then he had style. Rock said, Pay up, son, I am not going to ask you again.
Smith said, We’ll fight then, bitch,
then he puts his money in his pocket as he stood up. Sky grabbed the money in the circle and stood up. Rock said, Bro, I got this,
as he puts his hand on Sky’s shoulder, then Sky ran and punch Smith on the left side of his face knocking him to the ground, Smith said, Fuck you.
Sky said, What?
Laughing and trying to think of something hard to say, The Heavy Hitter run this shit, bitch.
Rock looking at the guys standing around If you want to be with the Heavy Hitters, stomp this bitch out right now,
so Chance, Ray, Andrew, Kelly started punching, kicking Smith’s ass. Rock said, Stop! Somebody get me my money.
Chance reached down and searched his pocket and found three hundred and fifty dollars then gave it to Rock. Rock gave fifty to Sky, Chance, Ray, Andrew, Kelly, and Rock kept a hundred for him. So Rock and Sky got all the guys’ numbers. Rock said, You all are officially in the Heavy Hitter crew, the only way you can get out is your life,
while clenching his fist.
Me and Sky will be your captains. You can call us captain. You are heavy hitters now.
Sky said, We will get money by any means necessary―does anybody have a problem with that? We will call you later, you are dismissed Hitters.
Rock said, How are we going to get money?
Sky says, I have a plan.
What’s the plan?
Robbing motherfuckers.
Hell, no, man, we need another plan, we will think of another plan because I made a promise and I am not letting them down.
Rock said, Give me some time. Let’s go to class.
So when Sky and Rock were walking to class, Rock saw this girl standing by her locker 26. Rock
