Oliver Newvery was very helpful to me.

My grandfather had a beautiful country estate in East Bengal. It was not too far from the capital city, Dakha. I was born there. If I close my eyes I could still see the country house very clearly. There were five beautiful ponds surrounding the country house. Lots of gardens, mango trees, coconut trees, banana gardens, and too many other fruit trees to remember surrounding the estate and the house.

    Chapter One

    The Devastating Territorial

    Division of India

India, the homeland of my forefathers, never was a land of homogeneous concept of any kind, our very own or otherwise. The idea of nationhood, racial politics or the power of religion always was completely unknown and alien to Indian nature. And not to mention, even the name India itself also, is foreign in origin to the entire indigenous population.

It is not very easy to be absolutely certain about exactly how many tribes, clans and variations of original races produced this vast multitude of people in this country. However, it is obvious to anyone that it must have been quite a huge number indeed.

India must have been an amazing melting pot of ethnic variations from the time immemorial to who knows for how long. What does it matter for who was first or even who came before whom. Except perhaps it is responsible for setting up the whole history of tradition and culture in this part of the world.

The present day political boundaries of our geographical namesake India never existed in the past. There might have been hundreds of states of different sizes, dimensions, strengths, power and popularities all over this land. There must have been lots of fights and fighting between all these states of different sizes. Depending on the kings and kingdoms of this vast territorial region, people suffered or prospered differently and diversely over the ages.

The people of the different parts were primarily different. They spoke different, they behaved different; their language, custom, tradition and value system, all differed slightly or vastly from each other. They looked quite different
