Frederick A. Dowdell Sr.

In my growing up in the small city of Boynton Beach, Fl, I grew up in a Pentecostal home then a Baptist home. I was raised by a single mother (Dorothy Dowdell) with 5 other siblings in the worst part of the city called Cherry Hill. It was by the grace of God and my mothers stern hand that has brought me this far and I have no police record or have never tried any kind of drugs. I was always taught that there was a God but I never truly understood who He was or what He could do until I reached my early 40s. In 2010 after being divorced for 3 years, I started to learn what God can do. I had learned what God had instilled in me so I let Him guide and direct my footsteps which led me to my angel of a wife (Rudeen Dowdell) that I adore and cherish with all that God has given me. I live with my wife and 2 (Ashley and Ceanne) of our 5 (Fred Jr, Alexandria and Avery) kids in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. My life then turned more on the focus of who God was and why He created me. I wrote this book because I learned as a new believer in Jesus Christ and reading His Word, it gets kind of confusing and boring. This book breaks down scripture so that they are easy to understand and digest. God has started something in me and my wife that we know He will finish. My wife is, at the moment this book is being published, battling stage 4 Uterine cancer but God is still good.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to thank my Father, Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ for the inspiration to put together such a book for the new believer. I give all glory to God because without Him there would be no me and if He had not chosen me to write this book then it would not be. I would like to thank all my family and friends who have encouraged me to stay the path and complete this book but mostly my number one fan my wife, Rudeen Cecelia Dowdell (Sept. 6, 1969-Aug. 4 2016). Although she has passed on and went home to be with our Father, she is still an inspiration to my ongoing ministry that she helped build in me. I am truly blessed to have what God gave me as a compassionate, loving wife to encourage and push me beyond my means and to stick with me in the good, the bad and the ugly. No matter what anyone says luv, you will forever be in my heart. I truly miss and love you so much.

    INTRODUCTION

    In the Beginning

You see God created everything we needed in life. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earths and the fullness there of was without void. The plants were created as food for the body and water for cleansing of the body. But before that He created the light and the dark which He separated, because both cannot dwell in the same place (Gen. 1). He also purposed men to write His words in what we now call the Bible. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16. There are scripture in the Bible that has been set for you according to the purpose of God.

Throughout this book you will see words in italics and in red, those are scriptures or scripture references. All scriptures used in this book are from the King James Version.

    CHAPTER 1

    Your Path to Righteousness

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Let us first differentiate the meaning between "lamp and light". A lamp is used by night, by implication, it shines just enough light for the immediate area. Lamp is defined as follows: to glisten, candle, a device for giving light, either one consisting of an electric bulb together with its holder and shade or cover, or one burning gas or a liquid fuel and consisting of a wick or mantle and a glass shade. In contrast, the definition of light is defined as follows: the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible, luminary, bright, clear, daylight, sun. Glisten also means to sparkle. So that means that the word of God in the form of a lamp unto our feet, sparkles. God’s word, as a lamp, will shed sufficient light unto our feet with each and every step in our walk with the Lord, equipping us with what is necessary to walk without stumbling (or sinning). We will be able to see the obstacles, temptations and traps because of the sparkle by the lamp, to avoid falling or stumbling. As we seek the Kingdom of God we must know where we are at that given moment. Jesus said "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:33-34

We must understand our duty by the word of God whether it be by day (sunlight) or by night (lamp). The night (darkness) signifies adversity and the day (sunlight) signifies prosperity. The word path talks about our choices and course of life; the word feet talks about our actions. Our choices and direction depends on how we use the lamp (word of God). It is a means to stir up a man’s spirit, and quicken him to obedience as if the word was written to him as a lamp to his feet and a light to his path. When we come to hear the word of God as it is directed to you personally so that it apprehends the truth as it is spoken to you, it will stir and awaken you to take heed to what is being said, it will stir you to obedience.

The word of God is like a torch or lamp to us as we walk through this world of darkness. Satan is king of this earthly world and we must be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8. The word of God shows us the way; it prevents our stumbling over obstacles. Just as a lamp when it shines light in a dark room so does the word of God. It keeps us from wandering off the path of righteousness and onto paths that would lead into danger or turn us away altogether from the path of life. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19. As we are called to go out into the darkness of this world, we should never venture there without the light of God’s word in our hearts. We should all use the word of God personally, practically and habitually to let it direct us in our daily lives.

If you look at Psalm 119: ¹⁰⁶ I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. It speaks of an oath which is a commitment or promise to do something. We all have made a promise to do something and some of us have succeeded and some of us have failed. This oath is saying that this person will follow God’s ways. Now we know that as long as we follow God’s ways and do His will then blessings shall be upon us and we shall walk in the light and on the right path. Now if we choose to fall from following God’s ways and will then walk in darkness and fall off the path that has been predestined for us. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn
