Who knew a tiny quail lived such a dangerous life prey for almost every other animal? Run with Valerie Vole as she struggles to keep her babies safe and yet contend with her eldest son who insists he is a mouse! Then swim with the orcas, those wolves of the sea and know Wallys terror as he is snared in a cruel net.

Author

Ramir Quintana

I live in Irvine, California, where I enjoy my six grandchildren and two sons. I had a very loving Christian childhood, which gave me the strength to endure many situations in life! I have always wanted to share this story and reach out to others like myself who have endured such cruelty from those whose desire is to break our spirits.

"To my beloved brother, Ted, so ill with ALS.

It was fun growing up with you. It is rewarding to know you as a loving man with an irrepressible sense of humor. It is heartbreaking to know we must, too soon, say goodbye.

Wish you could stay around a while."

    Queenie Quail

Queenie stood still, her body in rigid stance with one leg half raised. She was in a meadow but the new grass was not yet tall enough to hide her completely. The sun glinted on her brown camouflage, a colour which often saved her life as she blended into the forest shadows. Its scales scraped against the ground as it neared Queenie. She wanted to flee but her body would not respond.

Closer. Run, Queenie, run! But it was too late to escape.

And then, the reptile passed her by. She had not been seen or scented.

Quickly her body relaxed and she resumed her hunt for grasshoppers, one of her favorite foods, even tastier than worms or fruits. But as she had to swallow the bug whole it hopped
