Joyce Southern Bennett

Joyce Bennett says she is very fortunate to have been raised in the North Georgia hills. She was raised where “Amazing Grace” bounced off the rafters of the old-time churches. Old-time shouting was heard through the raised windows. Women fanned babies with funeral home fans. “I can see in my mind the women shaking those three-piece fans and beginning to fan the babies,” Joyce said. “Some of the fans were stuck together, so they had to be shaken loose before you could use them.” Joyce says you can almost hear the bluegrass music and old-time country echo through the valleys, mountains, and hollows. She wonders if the tunes weren’t mixed together from our forefathers, who braved the crossing to come to America. Joyce fumes when she thinks about some trying to take our Christian rights. “The way I see it,” she says, “If we have the goods, and it’s buried down deep in our spirit and soul. It is bound to come out somewhere. What happened to freedom of speech? The Lord, Jesus Christ, is my best friend.” “Yeah!” She can almost hear, Bill, her husband, say. Bill is now enjoying everything heaven has to offer. “Life is good,” Joyce says. “Some days, I don’t feel like jumping ditches, but we can always praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for all he has done. Amen!”

    THE LIGHT OF GLORY

Streams of sunlight casts beautiful rays of gold, behind and upon the trees, this morning, lighting them with a majestic glow. The trees and underbrush has the river completely hidden. Even, without the froth and peaceful flow, it is still a glorious morning.

The dead Rosebush, my neighbor, Ann, slaughtered, has sprigs sprouting.

The, supposedly, dead bush reminds me of a ladies testimony, one time, comparing God’s people with a Palmetto bug. You think you have killed that sucker, but after a while, it begins to quiver, then shake a little, then it will slowly crawl off. Praise The Lord! We may slow down. These old bodies may ache, but we are not dead yet. That is the way of God’s people. We ain’t Quitting.

The sleeping earth has burst forth with new life. Praise The Lord!

Yesterday was Easter Sunday. Pastor Dottie brought grape juice and crackers for us to have Communion. She washed everyone’s feet.

JOHN 13:4-5, He (Jesus) riseth from supper and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. (S) After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

We had few in number, but the Spirit was awesome.

I was blessed when I saw an elderly brother, Dennis Petty, wash the feet of a younger brother, then crawled to the first pew and pulled himself up right.

JOHN 13:14-15, if I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. (15) For I have given you an example, that Ye shall do, as I have done to you.

I didn’t feel worth a cuss yesterday morning, although, I do not cuss, but if I did, I didn’t feel like it. I was determined the devil was not going to hinder me from going to the house of God. I put on some heels (higher than I wear) and a skirt with a split at the bottom. I didn’t feel worth a flip, but I was walking in high Cotton.

I think of the shortage of cotton, back in the Civil War. There seems to be a shortage of cotton and polyester. There doesn’t seem to be enough material to finish a lot of the garments. Some dresses doesn’t have enough material to reach the knees. It seems, the material, also, runs out, long before they finish the neckline. I thought the South had recovered better than this.

We learn to hold onto the benches when we wear high heels to church. If the doorsteps are high, we learn to swing on the doorknob just right, then with head held high, we walk gracefully into the church.

PSALM 71:9, cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. MATTHEW 12:28, 11Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." There’s hope for a Rocking chair yet!

    The Light Of Glory

When I reach the shores… of Heaven’s glory,

And gaze upon that city so bright.

I’ll perceive the glare, and know my Lord is there,

For, He’s the light of glory, arrayed in purest white.

    CHORUS:

I’m going to see… the light of glory,

That light in the middle of the light.

I’ll walk by the light of the light,

The light of glory arrayed in purest white.

There’s no earthy way, my mind can fathom,

The beauty of that city… so bright.

How it must radiate, where the saints await,

With the Lord of glory, arrayed in purest white.

He has chosen ones to shine for His kingdom,

They all bare witness of His light.

Their work soon is done, their leaving one by one,

Heading for the true light, arrayed in purest white.

    Joyce Bennett

    GO BACK

PROVERBS 10:7, The memory of the just is blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

PROVERBS 6:10-11, "Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: (11) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

I saw an advertisement, last night, about a movie of a mother bear and her two cubs. The advertisement brought back a special memory to me.

Someone came to Oakland Grammar School, one t ime, and gave all the children a Smokey Bear coloring book. We were also, given a small box of crayons. It was a wonderful treat for all of us.

I wonder why our minds ramble back to our beginning years, rather than the years in between. ROMANS 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Our minds are a wonderful gift. A mind stores a lot of this life’s journey. believe, why our minds goes to the chamber of our childhood so often, is because most of us had no worries. We were only children playing in the sunshine of our lives. We seem to want to close out the hard work, the disappointments, and the high mountains we had to climb, instead, we prefer to think about the cool, peaceful valley of childhood.

Pastor Dottie is having a special event in our Waleska church tomorrow.

One of our members isn’t going. This sister is having trouble with her bladder.

It is not just bladders failing, it is, also, hearing growing dull, and eyes growing dim.

I was talking to a friend on the phone. "I hear it’s only a simple procedure to have your bladder fixed. They do it as an outpatient. What did you say? Did you say they do it in the Outhouse? llCORINTHIANS 4:16, For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."

Though the chairs we sit on, and the blanket we wrap in, feels better and better, the fires in our souls, just keeps on sizzling. Praise His Wonderful name!

My friend, Sister Sonjia, just phoned me. I made a lady mad at the Dollar Store. She said, "I was trying to help her find something to make her false teeth stick to her gums. Then she started low grading America. I told her if she didn’t like America she needed to move. The last I saw of her, she was huffing and heading for the door. I’ll use Super Glue!" The lady said, as she stomped out the door.

    Go Back

If your mind is able, and memories are available,

Go back to the old apple tree.

Remember the low limb, you swung upon,

Bring it all back—so you can see.

    CHORUS:

Go back, go back, in your mind’s eye,

Go back to way back then.

Try to feel the breeze, flowing through the trees,

Go back —and feel it again.

Though, you feel bound, and it’s hard to get around,

And you grow tired of staying in.

Go back to the river, where you wadded then,

Go back, my friend —and do it again.

    Joyce Bennett

    Move Up The Mountain

We live so far beneath God’s great promises,

While we fail to believe His Holy Word.

Staying in the lowlands and valleys of defeat,

Instead of on the mountain with our Lord.

    CHORUS:

Don’t homestead in the valley, move up the mountain,

Jesus waits on you and me.

Come up from the shadows, to the top of the mountain,

Jesus will bring you, sweet victory.

The only true victory is found in Jesus,

We can walk by still waters with Him.

Let your faith soar up, to the highest mountain,

The valley cares will all, then grow dim.

    Joyce Bennett

    HE SAID: PEACE BE STILL

lPETER: 5:7, Casting all your cares upon him; for he careth for you. I can hear in my Spirit this morning, Someone to care, someone to care, all my troubles like no one can do. Praise The Lord!

We are under a flood watch, also, expecting severe storms today. Beautiful blue-green mist clings thickly on the trees, also, hangs between the trees and underbrush.

The Weather channel showed several scenes of homes and businesses being flattened. The meteorologist covering the storm said, I can see a little boy’s fire truck, and a couple’s wedding album.

    Tragedy happens, but the Lord
