    The Truth Untold:

From a Sista’s Point of View

    An Overshadowed Sista

They giggle when I walk by,

    They talk behind my back,

While my sister walks beside me,

Getting all the attention that I lack.

    I’m older than her,

She should be looking up to me,

Why do I have to be the one behind her, overshadowed?

Waiting for someone to notice me.

She walks around twisting her hips,

And stomps in her expensive shoes,

While I’m at the table all alone,

Being the laughing joke of the school.

    Then when I get home,

    It doesn’t get any better,

My mom treats her like gold,

While I’m stuck with no jacket,

    Out, in the cold.

What do I have to do to get some attention?

What do I have to do to get noticed?

They’re so focus on what she do,

They wouldn’t notice if I was gone,

And just decided to take a lifelong trip

    And never come back home.

    I don’t ask for much,

Always got good grades in school,

Always did what was expected of me,

So I could become the woman I was meant to be.

But I never asked for this treatment,

    Never wanted to feel unwanted,

My parents don’t even ‘member my name,

Which put my self-esteem to shame.

Previously, there were four in this family,

Now down to three, excluding me,

So, I’ll just stay in my shadows,

    Hidden, behind the three,

With only, I, myself, actually noticing me.
