About the Author
My name is William ‘Bill’ Dickie. I grew up in a small town called Saltcoats, situated on the Ayrshire Coast, in Scotland, about thirty miles from the iconic city of Glasgow. I grew up in this town with my family of one brother and one sister and my loving parents. Saltcoats is a typical Scottish seaside town that I remember growing up as being vibrant and full of characters. This small town set my foundation to be curious about life and question everything, leading to travel and work within Scotland, initially living in Edinburgh for ten years and finally ending up in the Granite City of Aberdeen and the oil and gas industry, an industry which I have spent more than twenty-five years in.
The book contains many poems of various subject matters, but I could say the one true thread connecting all of them is the thread of love. Whether it is a poem on divine love or human love, love for pets or love for the environment that you find yourself in, all the poems are connected with this in mind.
Writing this book has helped me deal with our most powerful emotions, without which I am unsure how easily or willingly I would have faced them. The result is a powerful yet compassionate collection of poems. I invite you to open the book at random and have a read.
Maybe there is a poem for you inside.
Introduction
Although you would not know it
I truly am the reluctant poet
It happened so fast
The ability to write this way
Never looking for it
It, in reality, found me
What is this it you speak of?
For truly it is a mystery
To one day wake up, rise from bed
To have all these poems
Flying around
Inside your head
Nothing is forgotten
The slightest word or phrase
Something said mistaken
Will be used in creative poetry
Even to challenge yourself
To write of things of interest
To feel the words flowing
To have a vested interest
I do not seek the glory
I do not seek the fame
Fortune is hardly my story
There will be no financial gain
The poetry that is written
And displayed inside this book
Is it truly a work of fiction
Or reality coming from my heart?
With the help and assistance
Of people you meet along the way
Where love and joy are mixed with wisdom
Clearly shown here on display
With too many names to mention
They will know just who they are
As they read some little notion
Hidden within the lines afar
I would just like to take a moment
To lovingly thank them from my heart
This book of poems seen before you
