About this ebook

Pepper is a mouse currently for sale in a pet store. Right after finding his true love, they are both taken to an animal testing facility, where they witness and experience horrible things. A greyhound and a rabbit end up at the same facility, and together they form a plan to escape. Tragedy lurks when Pepper's girlfriend doesn't make it through a series of testing, and he vows to save two lives in order to make up for hers. He does this by giving himself up to science. His sacrifice was enough to save Flower and Loppy, the other two animals who share the book. The two of them make a daring escape and eventually find a loving home.

    Chapter 1: Pepper

Imagine that you are a tiny black-furred mouse with minuscule, shiny eyes and a long hairless tail. Imagine that you don’t have a name and are for no reason focused on one thing: finding food. You twitch your head to one side and instantly a beautiful smell enters your nose. The smell is intently followed and you are led to a large, curved plastic hole filled with treats of all kinds! There’s corn and crunchy pellets with a variety of flavors, there’s carrot bits and even the best of all! There are unshelled, lightly-salted sunflower seeds! The idea of having so many yummy delicacies is too much for your little mind to handle! There has to be a way to get rid of all this built up excitement so you can eat your feast in peace! You shoot over to the running wheel and start running as fast as you can. Soon you get tired but your stubby legs are still moving at lightning speed. Exhaustion sets in and your whole body just gives up. Promptly the world starts spinning at neck-breaking speeds and you are catapulted out of the running wheel and onto the aspen shavings that is the ground.

Wow. Are you okay? Asks the sweetest voice in the whole plastic-enclosed world.

Yeah, I answer with a grunt. I had just face planted myself in front of the most beautiful mouse in the whole pet store. That didn’t make me look stupid at all.

Just trying some new moves, you know how it is. I look up and see the most gorgeous mouse in the whole pet store. She has shimmery white fur, two front teeth that are perfectly straight and sharpened, and bright red eyes that reflected off of her cheeks which made her look like she was blushing perfectly all the time.

New moves? Were you trying to get free by trying to fling yourself against the hard plastic wall? she asks peculiarly. Not gonna work. Remember what happened to Mr. Rattles?

We both turn our heads to the shaky old mouse that stays in the corner of the box and temporarily shouts out odd things.

Squeak! Squeaker! It’s the Squeaker! He has a greying brown coat with patches of fur missing, dull eyes as black as coal, and a twitchy tail that continuously spazzes out of control, especially when he gets excited about his next escape plan.

Yeah, I guess he’s hit the plastic too much. I reply.

Suddenly two huge faces show up in front of us.

    See these two mice?
