About this ebook

Fate brought them together, well, that and old Gabe running Charlie up Billy's tree. At first Henry the keeper of the tree didn't want Charlie anywhere in his tree, but seeing these two little birds together, he knew this was the best thing for both of them. True, they were different, one was yellow and had lived in a cage all alone most of his life. The other was blue and lived in a tree all his life, surrounded by friends. But they also were the same; both were lonely and needed a friend, and most of all, they would become the others best lookout friend in all the kingdom. They would learn to rely on each other, have each others backs, and put their own life in danger in order to save the other. They would not only become the best lookout friends but they would become family, the very thing both wanted all their lives.

Wow! There were a lot of birds coming in and out of that old pine tree. Charlie wanted to be one of them. Every day, he would sit and watch them, his little head turning left then right, just to try and keep up with them. How beautiful they looked soaring through the sky, going wherever they wanted. He’d never had that chance. If only he could figure out how to get out of that cage . . .

He’d always lived in a cage; in fact, everyone he knew lived there. He was amazed to see these birds flying outside.

He thought back to the time when he was little. There were lots of birds in big cages, but all of them looked alike. He didn’t even know which ones were his parents. They were all family to Charlie; he loved them all. Then the day came when he was taken from the only home he had ever known. One minute he was there, the next minute he was grabbed from behind and put in another cage. Charlie was alone in a strange place—in a cage so small he could hardly move.

He didn’t understand what was happening to him. He was scared and wanted to go home. Days passed and no one came. He refused to eat, he didn’t want to sing anymore, and he just wanted to go home. Then
