Dorene A Lang
Dorene Lang is a Maine author who holds a degree in Social Services. Most of her working career has been spent with youth, with and without disabilities. Lang's "Journey" began when she, her husband Charles, and sons Charlie and Jacob lived with their pastor during a personal hardship. One of the highlights of living there for Dorene was the pear tree that was within view of the living room window, and the turkeys which sometimes surrounded it. Dorene credits her Lord, Jesus Christ for any success in her life.

Chapter One
UNRULY TURKEYS
Charlie felt confident that he would see a turkey today despite the rain. Every Sunday after church, he sat in Pastor’s living room with his nose pressed up against the window. I hope the turkeys come today, he thought.
He loved visiting here. The best part was seeing the birds that came. Many different birds came to eat from the big white bucket that hung from a pear tree in the backyard. The yellow, black and white, and blue birds were lively little things. They colorfully danced around the tree and sang pretty songs.
As the birds ate, the sunflower seeds and dried corn fell from the feeder and covered the ground. Those old turkeys won’t be able to resist that yummy snack, he said to himself.
Too soon he began to feel sleepy. The rain drizzled down the windowpane, and a huge yawn escaped him. His forehead rested on the pane, and he imagined that he could feel the rain’s warm wetness.
When the turkeys finally came, Charlie had begun to doze. The squawking and bickering between them woke him. They pecked at each other and fought over the dried corn. He had never seen such ill-mannered birds in all of his ten years. He fully expected that after eating, the turkeys would leave without even saying thank you.
They seemed to be that rude!
Still, he was excited. He was so excited that when Pastor’s wife entered the room and handed him a plate, she had to warn him to be still. She said the turkeys were jumpy and would scatter easily. He quieted, gazed at the birds, and munched the yummy blueberry pie that was Pastor’s favorite.
