    PREFACE

Can the human mind believe in the scientific account of the creation of the earth along with the Biblical account? Can both be accurate? Can we find geological evidence today of many of the events described in the Bible?

This book will literally take you to the far corners of creation, never disputing or doubting the accuracy of the Bible. In this book, the author will take you on an emotional whirlwind if you will read with an open mind.

After spending years in search of the truths of God and man, the author shares with you the results of his soul-searching journey. This work is like a snowflake, in that never before has there been anything written quite like this book. Read the scientific aspects from the author's point of view of God's creation along with geological events that followed, as well as what is to come.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the words of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

    EDITOR'S NOTE

    Katherine Bonner Ferguson

My father was truly an amazing man. He spent his entire adult life reading, studying, and searching for the truths of God and man. He had filled many roles in his life including a WWII veteran with a medal of honor, a survey engineer for flood control projects, a farmer, and a pastor. First and foremost, he was a minister of God. Love dominated his life: he did truly love all.

He gave his all as a father, life-mate, minister, or friend. In many ways his action and decisions were difficult to understand because he walked the highway to heaven and was always leagues above most of us.

At the time of his death, my father left many writings and several manuscripts to be published. For a long time, I was unable to work on any of his writings: It was a painful process. I have tried to make as few changes as possible as well as to present his material as he would have approved. This has been difficult and soul-searching for me: I have heavily felt my dad looking over my shoulder. I can hear his voice and see his frown. I can see his smile and the twinkle in his deep blue eyes as well as feel his hug and his encouragement leading me to carry on. He was and still is, bigger than life.

While working on this manuscript I have consulted often with my mother, Minnie Katherine Bonner, because Dad always considered her to be his best critic. I hope and pray that his works are presented to you the reader exactly as he had intended.

    REMINISCENCE

A rose was blooming by my path one day,

I turned aside to look and it was gone.

A tender hand once touched my cheek in play,

I reached for it and only there was bone.

Soft lips upon my cheek did plant a kiss,

Now memory's all that ever brings them near.

Warm eyes once looked upon my face in bliss,

The years removed so far that look so dear.

The sands of time hold not a print so fine,

As made by steps of life so tenderly.

Marks in heaven only hold their line,

And there we'll pause throughout eternity.

    FOREWORD

This is God's universe, His creation. The very substance of the universe comes from Him. That is implied in the meaning of creation. All design comes from Him. Design is built around His purpose. All things are brought about by His power. His presence is not in any way remote from His universe. We might say His presence is an integral part of the universe. The universe as we know is time-related, yet He is eternal. Our acquaintance with all His works is time-related. Like the iceberg floating in the sea, only a portion of it is visible, while the far greater volume of His works is hidden from the eye. Ecclesiastes 3:11 expresses this.

"He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end."

Miracles. Yes, I believe in miracles. We might say that all of mankind believes in miracles, whether they believe in God or not. No man limits his expectations only to those rigid scientific principles that govern the universe. Every desire, every hope, every expectation extends beyond these principles. His very subconsciousness causes him to cry out against such strict regimentation, causes him to realize that there is a supernatural variation within what he might pass off as only being fate.

Yet he lives in a world that is so regimented by such inflexible laws. The world we live in is a scientific world. By these laws, we know on what we can depend and find them extremely dependable. We have learned that it is not miracles that carry us through life, but the regulating power expressed through these laws. Yet our faith tells us that these only express the will of God, that through them, God is active in His universe. We have learned that life goes on without any special act that contradicts the natural causes. We might even say that it is the idolater that expects his god to provide through special means all his needs for every day. Yet when needed, the potential for the miraculous is always there.

The primary line of thought that I am following through this book is that the will of God is expressed through all the activities of the universe through ordinary means. Every major activity has been performed through simple scientific regulations, or what I often refer to as natural laws. God has placed them in charge of His creation, they are not forces unrelated to Himself, but are there to do His will.

The vogue of the present age is to show us how stars are formed out of great clouds of dust. These dust clouds are apparently supposed to represent a universe. Attached to the light- year theory, they are supposed to be happening billions of years ago and only now being seen. How many wormholes has this light spanned? It seems as if our country's efforts are centered upon two efforts to learn about the universe, both of which come completely out of the atheistic field of disbelief. One of these efforts is how the universe was made and the other is the evolutionary development of life on other planets, even on far distant heavenly bodies.

We will still be following these illusions when Jesus comes again and only at that time to pause now and then to marry and eat. Then when he begins to appear on the scene with his angels, our people will believe they are being invaded from outer space by space creatures.

At one point I touch on the uncertainty principle, a principle related to the very structure of matter. It is related to quantum mechanics. We know that the entire universe is made of moving particles, moving through time and space. It involves the inability to determine both position and velocity of a minute particle at a given time. An example is the electrons that make up the atom. It is very basic in the performance of every particle throughout the entire universe. Through it atheists may come to the conclusion that pure chance rules the universe, while it leads the Christian to realize that the physical law of cause and effect is not absolute. Through it we can realize that the divine will can readily be exercised throughout the universe. By placing this principle absolutely in the hands of the Creator, we are able to detect His means of controlling the universe: Here we see something even more basic than all other natural forces. We might ask the question is this the means by which God performs miracles as well as exercise control over natural forces? Are miracles pertaining solely to God's power to create conditions pleasing to Him, completely apart from any natural law, even apart from the uncertainty principle?

My primary end is not to present a metaphysical background for all things, but to present a point from which the acts following creation can be considered, a point from which all the time-related activities have proceeded that they might be viewed in a scientific light. I offer above everything else that there is no conflict between the Bible and science. Therefore in considering the Biblical account, my objective is to consider it in the light of pure science, rising above mere theories and conjectures while grasping the fundamental truths.

We must realize that the Bible does not answer all our questions, yet it never presents us with an untruth. We cannot say this about the 'sciences' of our day, especially those things presented to us by the atheistic world. Yet we must realize that science does enlighten us in many ways, including things that can even further our understanding of the Bible, even to prophecies of that which is yet to come. It is in this light that I present all the following.

    FOREWORD 2

Often when we speak of a foreword we really mean an afterword, only using the term in expressing where it is found. I am making a second addition of a foreword, primarily because only this night I learned of a recent astronomical postulation that went along very much with what I had attempted to express in my manuscript. That is the assumed existence of what is called the dark matter in the universe. While I did not identify it as such, it's assumed qualities fit in with what I designated as the structure of space which is represented by that second C in the formula, E=MC². Thus it would involve approximately one third of all the energy found in the universe, perhaps even more if we considered it extending beyond all the visible substance of the universe. The Smithsonian publication for June described it.¹ There was no attempt in this publication to specify extent. I had suggested it to be fragmented throughout space, assuming it to be the structure which regulated the speed of light and in this structure existed the 'wormholes' of space which allowed the completely unrestricted speed of light through areas of space where it did not exist. My suggestion was that this presence was detected by the formation of anti-matter, which had the appearance of 'holes' in the structure of the background of space. I use this in my book in challenging the accuracy of the light-year theory.

I have spent years in gathering the contents of this book and in the passing of time find it difficult to keep up with scientific assumptions: Thus this entry. The man who read this article discovered it and showed it to me. He proclaimed it to be what I was covering, with only different wording. It, as the wormhole theory, fit in well with those things I had formerly concluded.

    CHAPTER ONE

    Words, vain and empty words,

That say not what the heart must say.

    Syllables, all with meaning naught,

Upon the lips day by day.

Give me a thought that's come from the heart,

And then the words to say.

A gift profound as gifts can be,

For such a gift I pray.

A n ancient philosopher once stated, I am, therefore this is proof of my existence. We can testify that the world exists; it bears proof of its creation. Yet beyond that point of creation man is unable to probe. Man only confuses himself by trying to construct a concept of eternity from time alone. While time is self-evident as with creation, it remains too flimsy, too limited, as well as too restricted for eternity to be constructed from its substance. Rather, we need to accept eternity as the only solid structure to which time could possibly be anchored. Although we know eternity to be there, we cannot fathom its structure, we can only accept it through faith.

The statement, in the beginning God created heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1), refers to that point at which creation came out of eternity. In considering the creation of the earth, as well as the universe, what was involved in that initial step? I acknowledge that I find it difficult to choose adequate words to express these things. I try to grasp a vision of those things the eye has never seen, yet I know them to be there, and then pass that vision on to the reader. Therefore I try to envision creation coming on the scene at a fixed point, at which point it was attached to eternity, and began its time-related movement toward a destination where it will once again pass away to be no more.

We call our list of elements the periodic time table. Perhaps the scientists, in choosing that name, did not realize the full significance of it. They could not have found one more appropriate, for every activity of the universe and all its elements are fixed in the passage of time. Even those principles that govern creation's activities are time-related. When they pass off the scene eternity will still be there, it will remain. Time is not a part of eternity; it is of such a nature that the removal of it would not leave a hole in eternity's structure. Many of the philosophers of the past seemed to be completely blind to this fact, or else had not mastered the language needed to express it. Augustine, in his Immortality of the Soul, seemed completely blind to the great difference between time and eternity.² In the writings of the great philosophers that I have read, I have found only one vague suggestion of this in the Pensees of Pascal: in his discussion of the unfathomable reaches of the things of God.³

As I have stated, my primary objective is not to present a metaphysical background for all things, but rather to present a point from which the acts following creation can be considered, as well as a point from which all the time-related activities have proceeded: that they might be viewed in a scientific light. I say once more, above everything else, that there is no conflict between the Bible and science. Therefore in considering the Biblical account, my objective is to consider it in the light of pure science, rising above mere theories and conjectures while grasping the fundamental truths. In order to do this, we need to establish a positive starting point from which to proceed.

The Bible speaks of the ordinances of heaven, those physical laws that govern the universe. It refers to these ordinances as factors which do not change. I believe them to be universal, in that they exist at all times in all places throughout the universe. They are set in the structure of time itself, and can be overridden only by God Himself, in acts of a miraculous nature. Even in the performing of miracles, He has never permanently canceled one of these laws. It is a deep challenge to think of them in relation to the newly created universe. I do not think of them as forces idly floating about in space before creation, then creation taking place, and these factors taking hold upon it. I believe this concept violates the very nature of eternity; I do not conceive the idea of them being forces that God used in creation. I believe them to be regulative forces imposed upon creation immediately after coming into existence. Thus creation did not reflect their handiwork until after it came into existence. They were time-related, not eternity-related. I believe to see in the first chapter of Genesis two very distinct happenings. The first was the creation of all the substance of both heaven and earth; the second was the implanting of those ordinances that were to control it.

We find in verse one the creation of all things. Then in verse two, the Spirit moved over the waters and creation began to respond to God through these ordinances. First there was creation, the forming of substance. Then there was motivation, which resulted by the instilling of those forces that were to govern the universe. This was as nearly simultaneous as two acts could be, yet bearing individual distinctions. These ordinances were not already there waiting for creation. They were immediately applied and were without question time-related: having no intermediate gap between creation and those ensuing activities. Could it have been that at this time of suspense the statement from Genesis 1:1 was made that, the earth was without form and void?

Once creation took place, the passage of time became an inflexible force to which it was subjected. All the controlling ordinances were time-related, even to the activities of the atoms. In this we see the necessity of there being no intervening gap between creation and the beginning of the activities of the natural forces. The very continuing nature of all things created depended on these ordinances becoming immediately active. This was literally by divine design. At the same time eternity remained completely free from the passage of time. There seems to be three basic structures in the universe, yet the term 'structure' is perhaps an inadequate description of these three factors. Each of these is drawn from the very power of God, as His power is extended into the universe, ruling over His creation. These powers are evident, and expressed in Einstein's formula for the entire energy contained in matter. First there is the energy contained in the actual mass of creation, and then there is the energy involved in the formation of that region occupied by that mass. This is a return to the Newtonian concept that space has a structure, although Einstein denied this. The third is that inflexible movement through time, the duration of that mass. (I state this from a layman's point of view.) Thus we see three factors involved in every substance, from which is drawn the formula, E=MC². I consider this in the light of creation itself. It contains substance that has a position in space, and that substance continues through time.

By examining this formula, we can see that even where mass is absent we still have two values: both of which involve energy or power. This is none other than the power of God in His universe, here described as C². Then breaking down the two remaining factors, expressed as the values of C, we would be considering the secret of the structure of the universe and its passage through time. I offer this theory, basing it upon my concept of the creative power of God and His work in the structure of the universe. C² is a dual value coming from the space-time relationship of creation itself. The first value is measured by the passage of light through space, relative to the power or energy involved in the structure of space. The second value is the power that carries it through time. In simple terminology we can say that God formed a place, created the substance of the universe, and empowered its passage through time. These three factors are equally drawn from the power of God. Therefore throughout creation there is a power which gives each particle its substance, there is a power that provides the structure of space, and a power that propels it through time; or we might say, that third power is the inflexible grip of time itself. In God's creation we have substance, space, and time. Thus we have the formula for the entire power contained in creation.

In the breakup of the atom, we get an infinitesimal glimpse of the unlimited power of God. I have covered these things as a prelude to an examination of the light-year theory. This is one of the most challenging scientific concepts in relation to the Bible time-table. I believe there are loopholes or flaws in it, which I will attempt to show. The speed of light is not determined in relationship to a central point in the universe. The 'big bang' theory suggests such a point: a point from which all creation is moving. The speed of light, rather, is relative to the medium through which it passes. We cannot determine by the movement of light what the speed and direction in which our own galaxy is moving through space. If the movement of light was relative to such a fixed point in space we could determine this speed and direction. We can only determine the relative speed of light as it moves through the background medium of our own galaxy or maybe only a section of it. This indicates a moving background of space itself.

According to the 'wormhole' theory, this structure of space does not uniformly exist throughout all creation. There are areas where it is missing. In these areas light is no longer restricted to the speed of 186,000 miles per second. According to this theory, when light reaches such areas it immediately spans them, reaching the next area the same time it leaves the first. Thus the framework of creation seems to have a medium around the various components involved. Perhaps one component is galaxies as a medium restricting the passage of light and limiting it to that speed. Such media thus seems to often be missing, or fragmented. Thus each galaxy, or part of each galaxy, has a travelling medium surrounding it that travels with it moving at the same speed and in the same direction. As the galaxies move through space, their individual media accompany them, moving with them. The speed of light therefore is always relative to the medium through which it travels. Indications, according to the wormhole theory, are that these various media have voids beyond their limits that do not restrict the speed of light, but allow for instantaneous communications across these voids. The speed of light therefore is always relative to the background medium through which it travels, which I believe is the actual structure of space itself. This structure seems to be missing in certain areas of the universe. It is independent of any overall structure, or anything outside the confines of that medium through which it passes. It is not relative to any fixed point in space. If there is such a point, it seems to be completely beyond detection.

The wormhole theory indicates a fragmentation of that background which determines the speed of light, areas void of any restrictive structure of space, areas where light seems to experience an unrestricted leap to the next medium once that void is reached, as well as voids in the structure of space that no longer restrict the speed of light to 186,000 miles per second. Such gaps indicate the unreliability of the light-year theory. While I do not understand such unrestricted travel, I accept it by faith, in that the things related to God's power to communicate throughout His universe know no restrictions. If we believe in God, we believe there are such channels, unrestricted by any created substance. This, like the field of eternity, is beyond the grasp of human comprehension. All that we can feel assured of is that under these conditions the light-year theory does not hold water, although it is commonly accepted. I believe this was involved in Paul's account of being caught up to the third heaven, in the twelfth chapter of 2nd Corinthians. It is as if, when a light beam enters these voids, it enters the very substance of eternity: knowing neither restriction of time or substance. It is one of those things that even though we do not understand; faith tells us it is there. Underlying this is the ability of God to establish communication with His universe instantaneously, completely apart from any time-related restrictions. I tackle this subject early in my writings because it is so formidable in the time related concept of the universe. There are two others I will later consider, related to the two most commonly used means by which geologists attempt to determine age.

I have always been a strong adherent to science; I looked on it as a source of truth, lifting us above ignorance, mythology, superstition, and all other mentally crippling factors. However, in the course of time I found that there were often errors deeply embedded in some of its basic concepts. I became aware of the conflict that existed between the Bible and some of these concepts. I learned that there was an area of science that almost completely denied the truths of the Bible. Let me say at this point that I am not rejecting science, but am acknowledging the presence of errors among its various concepts. Man in his struggle to attain knowledge does not always establish his superficial acquisition of knowledge upon truth: especially when his mind is tainted with disbelief. I especially became aware of this as Bible statements became more and more deeply rooted upon my mind and in my heart. In the course of time I became more fully aware that the postulates of science contained both truth and error. In these were both truths discovered or realized and erroneous, unproved assumptions. These assumptions come primarily from a basic disbelief in the position, power, and truths of God. Yet to reject science was to reject the very framework of the truths around us, therefore rejecting the very words and works of God. The basic structure of science harmonizes with God's truths, God's works. Under such conditions it became a challenge to distinguish between the truths and the errors it offered.

Years ago, I studied the fundamentals of radio. In that study we were offered an explanation of how radio waves were propagated through space. Light is a part of that same electromagnetic spectrum, the same things would apply to its propagation through space. We were told that radio waves were propagated, or transmitted, by a rarification and condensation of hypothetical ether: literally a rarefaction and condensation of the medium through which the waves travelled. We learned that this took place where there was no known substance, only space. Thus even in space, or a vacuum, there existed a medium which experienced such a rarefaction and condensation of what was considered to be nothing. There could not be such a condition if space did not
