The Last Day on Earth: - Pavel Baldea

    THE BIBLE IN A CAPSULE

The Bible is the most printed book in the world. A question people often ask themselves when reading the Bible for the first time is: Why was it written? or What is so important about the Bible for it to be translated into almost all the languages on Earth? The Bible is the only book that speaks with authority about the existence of good and evil and the origins of the ongoing struggle between the two. It is written by men, inspired by God, and at His command. It is the Word of God. It provides answers to the most fundamental questions: Who created the universe and the world in which we live? Why did God, in His infinite goodness and perfection, create a world which became full of troubles, pain, disease, famine, war, and death? Why was Satan created? Why did He create rational beings? What is our purpose here on Earth? Why were we created? Why, why, why? Why Hell? Why?

Before attempting to answer such questions, the Bible reveals to us the character of God. He is holy, good, benevolent, forgiving, and He is our Savior. He is all knowing of the end prior to the beginning and all powerful. The only thing God cannot do is lie. He is just. He is all knowing. He is truth. The first pages of the Bible reveal that God created all things. All our scientific observations and investigations reveal, with much amazement, the existence of an intelligent design in all that is seen and unseen in the universe. Every life form that human beings have encountered is a miracle in itself. We cannot create even a blade of grass, yet God created everything for His pleasure and for the enjoyment of the beings He created. We work with all kinds of matter, transforming things into objects that are useful for our existence. The laws of mechanics, physics, and relativity guide us in the transformation of these materials. The famous equation E = mc^2 shows us the relationship of this transfer of energy at the atomic level. Amazingly, it is only God who can use energy to create matter. We can only use matter already created by God to obtain energy and objects that are useful to us.

    WHO CREATED THE UNIVERSE?

The first words of the Bible declare that In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth—thus affirming that God is the Creator without providing much detail about the specifics of how the heavens and countless galaxies, constellations, planets, satellite moons, meteors, and comets were created. Following this initial phase of creation, the earth itself is described as formless and empty and surrounded by water and darkness. Then there is a description of how the earth was transformed into an inhabitable place for the various life forms that He created. The earth’s transformation, and the creation of life, took six days, each day marked by an evening and a morning, as it continues to be to this day. God created everything by His Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) God spoke, and what He spoke came into existence.

A FEW DETAILS ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE EARTH AND ALL ITS LIFE FORMS

On the first day, God created light. On the second day, He created the earth’s atmosphere. On the third day, He created the earth and its waters. We are not given specific details about how the earth appeared out of the waters, but today, it is known that the depths of the seas exceed eleven kilometers, and the highest mountains exceed eight kilometers. Based on our observation of volcanic activity and the changes in the earth’s surface, we can see that everything is possible by God’s Word. Through the same Word, all plant life was created. On the fourth day, God illuminated the sky, transforming many of the heavenly bodies into the stars of the universe, the closest one being the sun during the day and the earth’s satellite, which reflects the sun’s light and lights our nights. It’s important for us to be observant. God created light on the first day, without the existence of the sun, moon, or the stars. Likewise, the last page of the Bible describes that God will once again create light in the new universe, without the necessity of the sun. This may be a difficult concept to grasp, but even the night will disappear. There will not be day but continuous light, thus ending the concept of time.

On the fifth day, the beings of the sea and the birds of the air were created, and on the sixth day, all the other life forms of the earth were created, including humans.

    HUMANS, AN EXCEPTIONAL LIFE FORM

Among all the other life forms created, human life is the most exceptional. The human being is gifted with the capacity to think, to feel happiness, to appreciate, to judge, to accept, and to create, among many other positive qualities—and also negative ones. In other words, the human being is a rational one. God knew from the beginning that the creation of a rational being would be a complicated process. Humanity’s capacity to experience happiness and joy, to live in eternal pleasure and contentment in its creation, to offer honor and praise to God for the opportunity to commune with Him,
