About this ebook

The Creation is an attempt to take concepts of science and religion to create a working model of the creation process. It is like putting a puzzle together. And where there are pieces missing in the puzzle Ive tried to fill the gaps with plausable ideas.

    INTRODUCTION

Perhaps the most important questions someone could ask are, Who am I, where did I come from, and what is my purpose in life? Throughout time, people have turned to various sources to find the answers. Some have looked to religion, the sciences, or other theories. Some have turned to myths or legends, while different cultures have turned to mystics to find meaning in life.

I’m no different. I’ve turned to a variety of sources to find answers. I believe in a God. I have studied the scriptures looking for answers and have found many. The scriptures don’t explain many things, such as the existence of other men long before Adam, dinosaurs, or the impossibility of a universal flood. There must be other sources of truth.

Truth is found all around us. There are spiritual truths. History is full of people with spiritual experiences, such as Joan of Arc or Martin Luther, and so are the scriptures. There are physical truths. Gravity keeps our Earth in orbit, and light travels faster than sound. But numbers can’t explain facts like love or Jesus walking on water. Science can’t explain all things, and neither can history nor religion. They need to work together to give an accurate picture of our existence.

So, after all the reading, searching, and piecing together what I have learned, I finally created a plausible theory and wrote this book. It was like a puzzle. It was an attempt to create a solid picture of the creation from many puzzle pieces. And where pieces were missing, I filled in the holes with possible theories.

I realized that I was onto something when I started sharing my book with friends and publishers. The book received quite a reaction from some. In particular, I watched one editor fall to pieces for over two hours, shaking and chain-smoking as he reviewed the manuscript. He told me, You have taken something so complex and made it so simple, but he then told me I would have to take the religious stuff out of it.

That would be impossible. There are truths found in religion that cannot be found anywhere else. As I said before, we need science, history, and religion to understand our world completely. This book would not be complete without the things of the spirit, and the puzzle would fall apart.

This book explores some interesting topics and new ideas. And as more people have discussed these topics and shared their feelings with me, even more ideas have surfaced. So many people are trying to figure out why they are here and have spent serious time thinking about these things. And almost every time I pick up scientific literature, there are new discoveries or concepts to improve the way we view life or help us to understand the creation better. I recently read an internet article about a new discovery of human footprints in White Sands National Park in New Mexico that puts humans back thousands of years. The footprints are dated from 21,000 to 23,000 years ago. People are curious.

I will introduce this book with the concept of entropy and then divide the book into two main sections: the spiritual and the physical creation. The first section deals with God and discusses the scriptures explaining the spiritual creation and, to some extent, the physical creation. The second section discusses the physical creation through history and the sciences. And sometimes, I will use a combination of both scientific and religious principles to make a point or reach conclusions. The last two chapters bring all the concepts together to complete the puzzle.

To understand the creation is to understand ourselves and how we fit into the vast panorama of eternity—past, present, and future. To understand our creation is to understand the things of God, to understand the character of God, and to understand the truths of religion, of science, of nature, and of man. Stephen W. Hawking, in his famous work A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes, states the following:

However, if we do discover a complete theory, it should, in time, be understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people be able to take part in the discussion of why we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reasoning—for then we would know the mind of God. ¹

This book seeks to accomplish that—to combine separate theories of religion, science, and history into a more complete whole. With this more complete understanding, we may draw nearer to knowing the mind of God.

    CHAPTER 1

    ENTROPY

Entropy is the second law of thermodynamics. All things left to themselves tend to move to a state of increasing disorder. Entropy is taking place all around us. Each day you and I get older—increasing disorder. Drop an egg and break it—increasing disorder. Mountains eventually wear down to sand—increasing disorder. Light bulbs burn out. Stars explode. Organic material decays. Plants rot, and bodies decompose. All things left to themselves will tend toward a state of increasing disorder.

There is a real problem here. If this is the case if all things are in a state of increasing disorder, why is the universe in such an organized state? Why is there order among the stars and galaxies? How can life exist, being the most organized thing of all? Why is there such order in nature here on the Earth and in the heavens? Why haven’t all things turned to dust after eons of time?

There are millions of galaxies that we can see flying through the universe. The universe is like one giant living organism with its complex systems constantly moving and changing, creating and destroying, giving and taking away life. Nothing is static. All things are in states of either increasing or decreasing order. But according to entropy, things shouldn’t be the way they are. There shouldn’t be order. This apparent violation of a fundamental law of nature supports the conclusion of a Supreme Being—a Creator.

The Creator gives all things their laws and boundaries. There must have been a Creator to organize chaotic material into organized systems—to act against the law of entropy—to create life, which is the most organized system of all. There is an apparent paradox, however. How could such a being exist before all things were created? This contradiction is solved by the concept of eternity.

    THE CONCEPT OF ETERNITY

The concept of eternity is essential to the understanding of the creation. According to the concept of eternity, all things have no beginning or end, and God did not have a beginning or end. But how does that work? What is the nature of God? Is there anyone who knows?

A man named Alma lived long ago and understood, to some degree, who God is. About 74 BC, in the western hemisphere, there were people taught by prophets who understood there was a Creator. One particular prophet named Alma once testified the following:

And now what evidence have ye that there is no God, or that Christ cometh not? I say unto you that ye have none, save it be your word only. But, behold, I have all things as a testimony that these things are true, and ye also have all things as a testimony unto you that they are true. . . . Ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also all the holy prophets. . . . The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the Earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator. ¹

How did Alma know of Christ, the Son of God, who would be born on another continent about 100 years later? Through a process called revelation. Revelation is how God makes His will known to an individual.

Now for the evidence that there is a God.

    CHAPTER 2

    WITNESSES

One of the reasons that we know that God lives is because many people have seen Him. Yet, many refuse to believe the witnesses because they have not seen God themselves. The belief in God kind of reminds me of France. I’ve never been to France and probably never will. I’ve seen it on TV, however, I have read books about the French and its history, and know people who have visited there. Because of this, I believe there is a France. Likewise, I believe in dinosaurs though I’ve never seen a dinosaur. It is the same with God. There is evidence that there is a God, so I believe in God though I’ve never seen Him.
