(Interior Book) Gilead Now asks why so many Christians do not heal from a wounded life and offers ten ingredients to healing a difficult past. This bible study uses the scripture, Jeremiah 8:22 as the guiding force for parts one, two, and three.
(Dusk Jacket Text) Part one, Healing the Past, takes aim at discussing the different responsibilities we each have as believers. Part two, Living in the Present, zeroes in on how we must live in the present while never denying the past. Part three, Yearning for the Future, the key is on the hope we are to have as believers while living in the present and yet, never omitting the past.
It is the goal of Gilead Now to validate each reader’s feelings in regard to her wounded past, while at the same time never denying the obstacles she must overcome in order to bring healing to her particular struggle.
My bible study is powerful, candid, and hopeful for millions and millions of Christian women who have been wounded in very specific ways and find themselves wondering how they can have victory in Christ
Chapter 1 Runaway Lover (Ingredient #1 Admitting Our Responsibility to Sin) This chapter highlights the key healing ingredient that we must step up to the bat and take responsibility for our sins and the way we have responded to the sin done to us. Using the key text of Genesis3:8 where Adam and Eve hid when confronted by God,
Chapter 2 That Old Dam (Ingredient #2 Placing Responsibility on Others for Their Sin Done to Us) This chapter zeroes in on John 8:32 and allows readers to not only know the truth, but also to do something with the truth in order to be set free. Because victims feel responsible for the sin done to them and often blame themselves for what happened, it is important for readers to redirect the blame of where it belongs…on their abuser. The chapter ends with a fictional metaphoric story entitle, That Old Dam allows readers the power and choice to truly be set free.
Chapter 3 The Lazarus Linens (Ingredient #3 Our Responsibility to Others) This chapter brings into focus the scripture where Jesus not only healed Lazarus from the dead, but also commanded others to take off Lazarus’ grave clothes. It is the goal of this chapter to direct readers to realize that we all have a responsibility to others. We all have grave clothes, or things that prevent us from living the life God has called us to, and we are to help each other take off our grave clothes.
Chapter 4 Mirror Mirror on the Wall (Ingredient #4 Believing What is Fact Instead of What We Feel This chapter takes into account what all of us have done from time to time…believe what we feel instead of what is actually fact. Because we are only human, we will all struggle at some point in our lives with our feelings instead of what is actually true. When we are able to separate the two true healing begins to seep into our lives as medicine for our heartbroken souls.
Chapter 5 A Trip to the Dentist (Ingredient #5 Believing We Can Apply Medicine as Deep as the Wound Goes) Chapter five begins part two by looking at the reader’s present state and the feelings that accompany our past wounds. Because we are emotional beings, we tend to dig up the past and focus on the triggers that keep us from living in the here and now.
Chapter 6 The Rain Gauge Renaissance (Ingredient #6 Believing We Can Stand Firmly in the Present One Day at a Time While Putting the Past into Proper Perspective) This chapter talks about Luke 21:19, "By standing firm you will gain life." (NIV) By looking at what is fact and not feelings, we can then move on to how to stand firm in the present. Readers will examine the good, the bad, and the ugly in their lives and be given the opportunity to rid themselves of anything that hinders them from living and standing firmly in today’s world.
Chapter 7 The Promise of Satisfaction (Ingredient #7 Believing We Can be Satisfied in Today’s World)This chapter takes a look at each reader’s life and shows through scripture how she can be satisfied in today’s world while at the same time yearning for the future. When we stop living in the past and are firmly girded in the present, we can then be content with what is happening in our lives today.
Chapter 8 The Promise of Peace (Ingredient #8 Believing We Can Have Peace on Earth) This chapter highlights the all elusive ingredient each of us
