About this ebook
She was persuaded by Raven, a schizophrenic woman who believed Ruth was satanic and had to die, but Raven killed Ruths mother, Diane. On her deathbed, she announced that she was not Ruths mother and explained that Pamelas mother was her real mother, and that made Pamela her half sister. Ruth pieced together her life and even began to understand the term cracked porcelain, which Pamela quoted to her when they were together. It was about abuse, and although it was about Pamela and her modeling career as a child, it could also point toward anyone who was abused. Cracked porcelain was a term used by Pamelas mother, Sarah, who considered Pamela as beautiful as newly made porcelain, unblemished and pure, but then when she was abused as a child, she became cracked porcelain.
Ruth thought about her abuse over and over, facing the horror in her sleep with nightmares and then awake with reminders such as smells and the sight of disgusting, perverted old men. Seeing or meeting people who resembled her abuser and the smell of his sweaty body and aftershave that lingered on her clothes. But Ruth had to carry on with her life. Despite such memories and losses, her concern was for her sister, Claire, who was also abused, and for her girlfriend, Cheryl, and of course her faithful friend and colleague, Kathy. Ruth was also keen to help her patients on the mental health unit, supporting their needs. These were her people with broken wings and lost souls.

Sarah has written four stories in this book that deal with the unusual and sometimes the bizarre. These stories explore areas of the imagination that leave the reader thinking about various aspects of mental health and questions whether or not certain things are real or imaginary. In the first story ‘Understanding Jodie’ the author questions the moral ethics of a teenage girl. The second story ‘Living with Faith’ is about an angel learning to protect others living as a mortal. The third story is Alison’s lifelong diary questioning her poor lifestyle following her death, only to experience her life again with radical changes. Finally the most bizarre of all stories ‘The secret life Helen Harris’ about a woman who wants to change her life and is helped but with drastic consequences.

It was a summers evening in the early part of the week, the streets were quiet and only a few people were roaming about. Amongst these people was Ruth a slim woman with long dark flowing hair and large brown eyes. Ruth had a look of melancholy, that some would mistake for sadness. Although she would have every reason to be sad, judging by her tragic past, living with a psychopath called Malcolm who murdered her mother and her girlfriend amongst others. Ruth is a mental health nurse who worked in the local hospital acute mental health unit, dealing with all kind of conditions from by polar, schizophrenia and clinical depression. Ruth had been deep in thought when she was suddenly distracted by a speeding car passing by playing loud music. She jumped and then returned to her thoughts unaware that someone was following her. It was a slim youth with short brown hair, large brown eyes and a rather unusually soft smooth complexion and a feminine walk. She entered a bar and joined a few friends after a few seconds she walked the bar with one of her friends and ordered drinks. The youth stood at the bar close enough to hear their conversation, but not engaging in conversation himself. Ruth was discussing relationships making it known about her sexuality by her choice of words and from her tone of v oice.
Look Kathy, I don’t care what people say at work they all know that I am a lesbian, why should I hide it the whole world knows after my appearance on TV and radio as well as the press
Ruth said
Ruth that was when you were in modelling now your back in nursing and all that’s behind you
Kathy said concerned.
I might have stopped modelling but I haven’t stopped being a lesbian, that’s me and my sexuality
Ruth said trying to explain to her friend.
Kathy was a blonde woman with shorter hair and built slightly larger than Ruth, she was listening intently to Ruth along with the youth who by now had bought himself a drink. He kept glancing at Ruth’s beautiful face watching her mannerisms then making similar movements as if he was deliberately copying her. But was this young man a stalker or had he got a more sinister thought in mind, he had sat down and made a point of staring at her, if Ruth had not been so busy maybe she would have noticed him watching her and feel uneasy. But Ruth was too occupied and engrossed in her own thoughts and conversation to be bothered with anyone else. After a while the young man left the bar and headed down the street, but he continued to mimic Ruth’s
