Cracked Porcelain Too: Ruth’S Story
()
About this ebook
Ruth also becomes involved in the gay pride International parades and is a voice for the freedom of all oppressed people in society. This causes a problem within the religious aspect of the community who verbally attack anyone who they feel oppose the bible and its teachings. But Ruth never stands alone somewhere in the shadows a friend fights for her; Pamela is around if not in body then in spirit.
This story highlights subjects from the first book and brings the memories flooding back with as many twists and turns along the way.
Sarah Ruth Scott
Sarah has written four stories in this book that deal with the unusual and sometimes the bizarre. These stories explore areas of the imagination that leave the reader thinking about various aspects of mental health and questions whether or not certain things are real or imaginary. In the first story ‘Understanding Jodie’ the author questions the moral ethics of a teenage girl. The second story ‘Living with Faith’ is about an angel learning to protect others living as a mortal. The third story is Alison’s lifelong diary questioning her poor lifestyle following her death, only to experience her life again with radical changes. Finally the most bizarre of all stories ‘The secret life Helen Harris’ about a woman who wants to change her life and is helped but with drastic consequences.

INTRODUCTION
R uth was a qualified mental health nurse who became involved with one of the patients called Pamela. They had a sexual relationship and as Ruth was considered beautiful, entered Pamela’s career in modelling. Ruth’s ex partner Malcolm was jealous of their relationship and being a violent psychopath pursued her. He finally caught up with her and attempted to kill her. Unfortunately in the frenzied attack he stabbed Pamela who later died from her wound, leaving Ruth in her present state of mind suffering from clinical depression.
Ruth’s best friend and colleague Kathy was left to deal with Ruth and helped to bring her onto the ward. She visited virtually every day and in between Ruth’s family was present either together or separately. Her elder sister Emma was a little dubious about visiting as she experienced a strange event when Ruth first came in. Emma went to the bathroom and saw blood in one of the toilet cubicles with bloody footprints leading out of the toilet. She then saw Pamela with a bright light behind her head like a halo, and Pamela was holding her stomach with blood oozing through her fingers.
Following the death of Ruth’s partner Pamela, Ruth was admitted to a psychiatric ward suffering from depression. During this period Ruth is having therapy and looking back at her life, at thirty-two she has had a lot to deal with. She was abused as a child and only now facing the problems that have occurred from this experience. She also deals with other issues in her life, such as her own sexuality, which she fights to defend as she did with Pamela.
Strange events occurred during Pamela’s life, things that could never be explained. In this story these events continue, affecting many people who are in contact with Ruth. In fact even Ruth finds it hard to explain. Some consider it the ghost of Pamela, or a guardian angel while others consider it hallucinations or visions.
Ruth’s involvement with Gay pride International proves to be a way of Ruth demonstrating her sexuality in public, just as she did in the ‘power of love fashion show’. When she publicly announced her engagement to Pamela and was organising a civil wedding. Gay pride was more about establishing her sexuality and sharing it with others in Manchester, New York, Toronto, San Francisco and Australia.
Another problem for Ruth was Malcolm’s brother Frank who was determined to avenge his brother’s death also menaces Ruth and her family. His ultimate aim is to find Ruth, terrorise her family for a while and finally kill her.
THE DARK AND
LONELY PLACE
I t was a cold winters day, the wind was blowing and snow drifted along the streets. A solitary figure sat in a room unaware of the blizzard outside, in fact unaware of anything around her. She had been sat for hours without moving, just staring into space her thoughts could have been a million miles away. In reality Ruth was a patient on a psychiatric ward, who was admitted following a traumatic experience suffering from posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSS). She was in a depressed state and had hardly uttered a word since admission, she had to be encouraged to wash and dress, in fact she needed prompting to do everything. She was diagnosed with clinical depression and treated with antidepressants and psychotherapy, this was a long process and has she had just been admitted it could be months away before progress could be made.
Kathy came onto the ward looking for Ruth, she entered the room where Ruth was sat. Kathy then sat beside her and held her hand. She knew that she would probably not get her to respond but it was worth trying and she may be aware of her presence. Ruth merely shed a few tears, holding her legs, rocking back and forth rhythmically. This was classical of her condition with clinical depression assuming the foetal position as a form of comforting herself. Kathy stayed a while then left to work on her own ward next door, before she left she spoke to one of the nurses who was in the office.
Hi Janet how is she doing?
Kathy asked
No change yet Kathy
Janet replied
"Have the family visited? Kathy asked concerned
Yes but her mother Diane seemed to distress her although she did keep saying mother and her sister Emma seemed quite nervous
. Janet said
That’s because Emma had a strange experience here in the bathroom
Kathy explained.
A few months passed and Ruth was showing signs of progress, she was communicating with the staff and conversing with other patients. Kathy noticed the changes with her on her many visits. Ruth was now pleased to see Kathy and hugged her each time she visited her, she spent time talking to her about the ward and other patients.
How are you Ruth?
Kathy asked
Ok I think the medication is kicking in
Ruth replied
No more nightmares?
Kathy asked concerned
A few but less often, but certainly flashbacks
Ruth said
About Pamela?
Kathy said watching patients passing Pamela’s room
Yes about Pamela and Malcolm, sometimes other stuff
. Ruth said looking down Do you think my heads fucked?
Ruth asked looking at Kathy for reassurance
Well if your heads fucked mine must be
Kathy smiled at Ruth Look you have been through a lot and your doing well
.
I am starting therapy soon, you know in order to put things right, you know the score
. Ruth said yawning
Your tired
Kathy said watching her yawn again
"No it’s the thought of
