About this ebook

My dad wrote poetry for many years. When he was almost at the end of his journey, he sat down and showed me some of what he had written. I couldn't believe that he had such marvelous emotion. He crafted some beautiful poems.

Years later, I became inspired by his memory and what I had learned from him. I wish he were here to see this work. I think he would be proud.

    Family

My family means the world to me

    I don’t know what I would do

If they weren’t there every day to see

Things in my life would just fall through

I depend on them for all my strength

    We share each little moment

I would go to great lengths

    To avoid any postponement

I try to give them all I can

They deserve to have so much more

I want to be the very best man

And be an example for them to live for

They work so hard every day

I only want the best for them

Trying to guide them in everyway

And hoping each day is a gem

The children have almost all moved on

I did the best I could

At least they know right from wrong

And as people they are good

Your family is a reflection of you

So be careful how you lead them

The goal is to hold them together like glue

While you encourage and don’t condemn

So give them all the time you’ve got

    it’s easy and it’s free

be proud of all the things you taught and

    end everyday on your knee.

    My Dad

My dad was an unaffectionate tough guy

Life dealt him a very poor hand

He was strong enough to get by

And determined to take a firm stand

His father was murdered, his stepfather too

Childhood was filled with such strife

He never gave up, he was always true

You were proud to have him in your life

When the navy called, a radioman he became

Spent weeks in a small room at sea

did just as he was told when called by name

keying the messages like they were received

when he came home his wife greeted him

with a new son and a family to start

though he wasn’t quite sure of where to begin

he just jumped in with his heart

he lived his life one day at a time

never asking for more than his due

he wasn’t like Rockefeller handing out dimes

to all his friends that were new

I am proud to have had him as long as I did

He was a great example of fortitude

    It
