Reason Why I Write
Someone asked the question of why do I write
You see, for me putting words to paper is as easy as breathing or day turning into night
I write because this is the gift that God has bestowed upon me
He’s blessed me with the mind and heart to express myself through poetry
I write because when I woke up this morning I wasn’t lying in the street
When I go to my refrigerator for food, I’ve got a choice of what I want to eat
I write for the money that I have to buy what I need instead of needless stuff
I write cause my wealth comes from God’s hand because he brings me through all my times that are tough
Maybe I write because instead of holding a note, I’m blessed with holding paper and pen
My songs won’t be heard on any radio station but still my words he understands
Maybe I write for all those tears that I cried on my behalf so selfishly
All those times I should’ve been giving thanks but instead all I could think of was me me me
I write because I keep coming up short of being the man God wants me to be
And with every sin I have to drop my head because he still keeps loving me
So much so that he sent his only begotten son to be crucified and die on a cross
And even though we didn’t see it, that’s a moment in time that continues to touch us all
I write because maybe I’m not the only one here living in sin and shame
I ask you to confess it cause just like me the angels in Heaven have signed your name
I write because I don’t have perfect pitch, tone or any key
My humming alone will make the deafest person cover their ears from hearing me
I write for all those times my feet never touched the ground while traveling through the sand
You’ve given me water when I was thirsty and food when I was hungry; truly what an awesome God we have
I write this as my testimony, my praise, my way of telling God, I love you
I write because I’m still your child even after the unworthy things I do
I write because a solo, a trio or quartet; hey, those things just aren’t MK
I write because when I lift my hands to Jesus, I’ve got my own special way
And we all have our way of praising God, don’t worry about it if others don’t like
