    Poetic Antidote - Micheal Bates

    THANK YOU

I thank you for being there through my darkest time even when the rest of the world payed me no mine.

You watched me suffer and hurt when I felt meaningless, just like dirt.

    You gave me self-worth.

We even tried to make it work.

Through all my trials and trivialization, we found a reason for a celebration.

Totally dedicated and thankful for all that you do.

Sharing my most intimate moments with only you.

I thank you; I thank you in appreciation.

I thank you; I thank you with all gratification.

You got me through the toughest of weathers, you did everything to make it better.

You navigated and guided me all my life, I thank you for your sacrifice.

    I CAN DO BETTER

I know I can do better

I can do better than you

When I look in the mirror, I see clearer and clearer

All the pain I feel with you

It’s my faith that gets me through

I bury the anguish I keep deep inside

But these feelings, I can no longer hide

Suicidal thoughts run through my mind

But I think of all the things, I would leave behind

What is your purpose to me?

Are you a test? Are you what’s good for me?

    I ask myself these questions

But funny how life teaches us so many lessons

So I no longer feel ashamed or do I pass on the blame I do what’s best for me and stay in my lane

I’m not looking for anything to gain

I just want my sanity and to stay sane

So you can say, whatever, whatever

I know I can do better

    BE A MAN

Allow me to be who I am

Allow me to be the man

    Let me run the house

Respect me and leave me with no doubt

Don’t stop me from doing my job

    Pray for me really hard

So I can keep my health and strength

    Protect and serve with relevance

I’m not asking for much, even when I’m scared

All I want is a partner who shows that they care

Give me my roses while I’m still here

    Don’t tell me,
