Kirk Trosper was born and raised in Chilress, TX with three sisters and two brothers. After graduating high school, He joined the U.S. Army. shortly after leaving the military, he began working for The Texas Department of Transportation. First as a Maintenance Technician, then a Construction Inspector, and finally as a Design Technician. He retired from the state after 28 years. He has lived in Munday, TX for the last 24 years, the last 10 of which have included Val & Jessie.

This is not meant to be the next Marley and Me. I’ve read the book and watched the movie countless times, and it is something I always need to do alone because it gets to me every time. This is just a diary of life with Jessie and Val that fellow dog lovers might enjoy.
These chapters may seem pretty short, but hey, I’ve always been a cut-to-the-chase kind of guy.
CHAPTER 1
Val Comes to Live with Me, to Her New Home
One day, when I was out on a construction job, walking beside a hot-mix laydown machine, like I did for fourteen hours a day on average, I get a phone call from coworkers. They found a puppy running down the middle of U.S. 277, between Munday and Goree. They called to see if I wanted to take her. I told them I would think about it as I was still out on the job. Before I can get back to the office, I get a call saying the pup is in a pet carrier under my carport. I was informed that they named her Val, short for Valorie, as they were out locating Valor phone lines for an upcoming project. Valorie just
