    DEDICATION

In loving memory of my father, Dr. William C. Perry.

    January 25th 1933 - July 4th 2015.

To my wonderful children, Isaac, Amanda, Joe, Jasmin, and Arial Taylor—you all saw I had a need to devote myself to this project, especially in the latter days, and supported me in any way you could to help me see this book come to fruition. I dedicate this book to you and all my grandchildren so they may learn and know who God is, trust in him, serve, and lead a life as servants following after the best example: Christ!

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Praise the Lord! Just like any other author who has written his or her memoirs, I am happy and glad it’s complete. But I cannot take all the glory in completing this project. There were so many of you who supported me and rooted for me to the finish line. I thank God every day for my mother, Lillian A. T. Thank you so much for supporting me and helping me stay afloat during this project. My team, Peace, Sherrell, Grace, HONH, Mercy, Eleanor and Favor, Jakia, wonderful, supporting editors, Booster Club, Beverly W., Chief Larisha, Daphne, Eleanor, Enoch, Pamela E., Fanita, Cecil, Kaleedah, Kiesha T., Raverna B., Sherri, Pastor C. E., and many, many more, including all those who thought I was crazy, who still think I’m crazy, or whom I made crazy talking about this book 24-7, 365 days.

    FOREWORD

As an associate pastor of a large church situated in the center of the governmental seat of the State of California, my role can, at times, become hectic. My day-to-day activities can go from planned to chaotic then retreat into an uncanny calmness where reflection and worship take place.

As a family man, there seems to be much of the same: busy schedules, lots of driving to and from schools, cooking dinners, baking cookies, and an occasional date night. Married for twenty-four years (September 7, 1991) and dad to four extremely bright, beautiful daughters who are all completely different yet resemble one another, one might say, Sir, you’ve got your hands full. I would have to concur with that observation.

When asked to pen a foreword for A Millionaire Mind-Set, my immediate answer was Of course. Then, as I received the PDF, I noticed how the summer month, which is usually slow, began to erupt. Transitions and shifts in ministry demanded my attention. At the same time, we were sending off daughter no. 2 across the country to enter a vocal studies program at Morgan State University, a historically black university in Baltimore. In addition, daughter no. 3 had to be taken back to her boarding school in the Monterey, California, area; and daughter no. 4 was beginning her middle school journey at a new school. Daughter no. 1, by the way, is halfway around the world doing missions work in Southeast Asia.

On this particular Friday morning, I sat down to read my Bible. I started a personal study through Paul’s letters to Timothy. In 1 Timothy 1:2, Paul wrote, May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace (NLT). Later that same morning, I began to read through A Millionaire Mind-Set.

My recent focus on 1 Timothy gave me a biblical lens and had me viewing all the words of A Millionaire Mind-Set with a filter of grace, mercy, and peace.

I would entrust to you, the reader of A Millionaire Mind-Set, the same lens through which I read these pages. Djuan’s heart for the Lord’s best for his children that they would walk in authority because of the Word of God and a relationship with him is painted vividly throughout the pages. This book is so far beyond being a get-rich book. I encourage you to insert yourself, your experiences, and your testimonies into the reading. Yes, you will relate to the stories herein.

May the God of peace, grace, and mercy show you the way to increase in him; and may the Holy Spirit be the Comforter, giving you all assurance of his authority in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

    SPECIAL FOREWORD

When my daughter first presented her book project and title to me, I thought, How ironic. It is indicative of Djuan Perry, as well as natural for her, to have transcended into such a mind-set that was always there from the beginning. To think in such a fashion and walk it out in faith is a natural part of her DNA. Her grandmother, the late Ruth Victoria Thompson, and I have never lived one day not believing, feeling, or thinking that our family were descendants of royalty. As a child, my father used to tell me and my thirteen siblings that we were of royalty, priestly people. We never knew any different. At a young and early age, I acquired and attained a bold, courageous, and business-minded spirit and attitude that allowed me to walk through many wonderful doors of opportunities that I would not have experienced, had I not known or been taught who I was. I was a vigorous child and began working very early to help support my family. I was a very small-framed child and was always told I could not do the job because I was too young, fragile, and not strong enough. However, my determination, vigor, and persistence always proved my doubters wrong, even when I became an adult and earned the Top Salesman’s Award at a Fortune 500 company. I was the only woman who had ever outstandingly outperformed a male-dominated profession at that time. I’m certain all parents would like to protect and shield their child from life’s disappointments and hardships. However, Djuan has used her struggles and challenges to charge her faith and attain a millionaire mind-set; and I believe, without a shadow of doubt, that you will enjoy reading her testimony of richness.
