Elliott Lyons M. DIV. M.A.C.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: ELLIOTT LYONS I was born in Chicago, Illinois to Reverend and Mrs. Elliott and Elsie Lyons and raised by grandparents in Galveston, Texas. My prayers are that this book will offer enlightenment, hope and inspiration as well as a clearer perspective on life and aging. Life is precious and a wonderful gift of God that should be lived to its fullness with a sense of purpose and direction. Dr. King said, “It is the quality of life and not its longevity that truly counts.” When I think of my life, the blessings and miracles that I have witnessed, I concluded a book needs to be written. I am a survivor of three near fatal car wrecks, three near death drowning encounters, escape from the ghetto violence crime life. I was given a second chance opportunity to begin a new life at a central turning point with the acceptance of the call to the gospel ministry in 1968 at the age of 18 years old. I am grateful that God had a greater plan and purpose for my life and He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. I accepted the call to preach at the early age of 18, on September 23, 1968. I was ordained and pastored successfully in both the states of Texas and Georgia for over 40 years. I have been successful in the areas of evangelism, building and founding of churches, counseling/crises intervention along with outreach ministry. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. He also has a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. I hold numerous awards and certificates which include certification in Clinical Pastoral Education-Commissioner’s Award of Outstanding Service/DHR – Substance Abuse and Offender Rehabilitation Counseling Certification – MAC and CCCJS by National Forensic Association and National Board of Addiction Examiners. I am a current member of Cambridge Who’s Who Honor Society. I recorded his first gospel CD entitled “Songs of Inspirations” in 2008. I also retired after 30 years of service from the Department of Human Resources receiving an award for faithful service in 2008. In February of 2013 I retired after 4 years of service with Seeds of Hope, (Developmentally Disabled Care Provider) as a Public Relations Officer. I am married to a devoted wife, Rev. Eretta B. Lyons who recently retired from the Clayton County Public School System as a Certified Special Education Teacher in 2012. We have a beloved son, Elliott Lyons III. I am the current pastor of Welcome Chapel, celebrating over 47 years of ministerial services, and I attribute all of my achievements to the “Glory of God”.
